there are a few deeper reasons for this name that have arisen since then, but i don't feel like digging that up right now.

I have loads of nicknames. I've never actually used a nickname that I made up for myself, everything I'm ever called was made up by some gimp.

"Davers" is my name (Dave), with "-rs" at the end of it, such was the trend when I was about 15, to put those two magical letters as a suffix on all your best friends' names.

There was Davers (pronounced "Davvers", not "Dayvers", you must get that right http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif), Bretters, Greggers, Miggers, Jonners... Christ, there were a whole load of us. And we were all absolute eegits.

"King Gimp" came from the fact that I started using the word gimp when I was about 12 years old, I don't know where I got it from (these were pre-Pulp Fiction days, so it wasn't from that, and I never watched TV... mystery), and it spread. Suddenly, everybody and their families were using the word "gimp" as a general purpose word. I would come out of school and hear parents shouting "Get off that wall, Matthew, you gimp!", and having seen their children falling off the wall, they'd comfort them with "Awww, poor little gimp".

Well, actually that last bit's bollocks, but it was kinda a craze. Started by moi! Heheh.

Anyway, as a celebration of the fact that I started the craze, friends started calling me King Gimp. How sad.

I've got so many nicknames. "Dig", which is an acronym for "Dave Is Gay" (yes, my friends and I are completely and utterly sad), Dirk (from Dirk Diggler from Boogie Nights), G-Davem (pronounced "Guh-Davhem"), and too many others to name.

Most people just call me Dave nowadays, though. Sigh. The days of ridiculous nicknames are over.

Mordecai, it came from a great many years ago, when I was first learning what a modem was and what I could access with it. So when that fateful BBS asked me for a nickname, I used the Mordecai, having seen it in a number of places and I thought it pleasing to the eye and ear. When I came to use it on another fateful BBS, I actually ended up being known as Mordecai by people I ended up spending time with and it stuck. Now, a dozen or so years later, it's not likely it'll go anywhere. I'd have added it legally to my name except my parents named me with a very meaningful name that I'd not like to disturb, since it's even more a part of me than Mordecai.

Originally, mine is from role playing online many years ago. I was in an elite family of Malkavian's who took pride in their name, Acidz. The craze part was added because I played a crazy (of course) sadistic-dominatrix-slaver.

Then when that ended, I kept it because it appealed to me. I was doing a lot of acid back then, so it became a clue to my favorite drug.

Now that I'm psuedo-drug free (at least from acid) its translation can be "acid-is-crazy". Or so I'm told at least. I never saw it like that..heh. Anyhow... yeah.. rambling... ick.
