Blackout babies called urban myth (http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/CalgarySun/News/2004/05/14/459122.html)
DETROIT -- Those who said births in areas hit by last summer's blackout would skyrocket nine months later haven't delivered on their predictions. The belief that more babies will be born in May because the Aug. 14, 2003 blackout created more intimate moments is urban legend, said S. Philip Morgan, a Duke University professor specializing in fertility.
"I'd be shocked to see a baby boom because I'm not convinced there is more sex during blackouts," Morgan said.
Spokesmen at Detroit hospitals confirm maternity wards are busy in April and May, but are no more so this year than last.
