The grass is NOT greener on the other side.

That statement would apply to me if I had indeed left my job with Siemens to come to this job because of money.
That however, was not the case.

I left my job at Siemens because Jekyll and Hyde (as I refer to my former boss) had posted my job online becuase I didn't fit "his" image. I wasn't his kiss ass.

I left a job where I was spoiled.
7.5 hour work days. (though I worked 8.5 because there was that much to do), 100% benefits for health, drug and dental, RRSP and retirement plans 75% employer paid, 13 floater days and 3 weeks holidays for $36,000 per year.

I came to a job that works 9 hour days, 80% benefits for health, drug and dental, RRSP and retirement plans that are 50% employer paid, 15 designated days off (we work the extra 1 1/2 hours per day to build up the designtated days off), 2 weeks holidays and $41,000 per year.

By the way, after tax, my net salary is the same.

On Tuesday, I found out that Jekyll and Hyde was fired.

Aside from losing 4 sales guys in 4 months, and his personal assistant (who had been employed with the company for more than 3 years) at a total value to Siemens of $2M in clientelle, and of course there is the losing of a $9M deal due to lying and attitude problems, and his obvious lack of respect for women in general, and of course the condesending notes and emails to his staff about what he will and won't do at bonus time if there is not more "support" for him, and of course being un prepared for financial meetings with the CFO and CEO, and there are the times where he's walked out of meetings like these due to embarrassment, and then there is the recent time where the personal assistant had a long lunch with the VP for executive relations in where these 2 friends discussed at length the lack of added value to the company, and of course the time last week where Jekyll and Hyde went to a bar in Calgary to celebrate the Flames win and started a bar room brawl where the police were called in and charges were pressed (and of course more than 20 staff and 10 clients were attending)...

The VP for Exec Relations and the Director of Power Generation are lobbying for my return.

And I will do so when the time arises.

*sigh*

Oh.

Can't you just toil in silence like the rest of us?

I've made a few observations in my career. I have associates working for me that come and go. It seems the "grass is always greener" for them, too. A few questions I like to ask:

1.) Who am I replacing? If the company has a large turnover and I am one of the new drones, I may not want to work there. If I am being hired due to expansion, chances are there is a possibility of advancement.

2.) How big is the company? I personally don't like working for the mom and pop organizations. I don't think it's right that you have to beat out the owner's son for advancement.

3.) Is it worth losing tenure? You need to match your current bennies with what you will get at the new place. (i.e. vacation, healthcare, personal time, etc.)

4.) What do people think of the job? I've never been opposed to calling employees at a potential job and asking them the pros and cons of the job.

Sometimes the grass is greener. Sometimes it's greener because of the sewer underneath it. i've only made one jump that I wish I hadn't. The rest have been pretty sound judgement calls.

Barbie, I'd go back too. It's like going back home so to speak but this is your opportunity to go back with a pay increase. I’d definitely take advantage of that.

The company is swalling some pride (not much, I'm not that significant) in asking me to come back after allowing that shit ass to do what he did to his employees. The VP lobbying for my return is trying to get me what I'm getting here at this new company.

To be honest with you, I don't need that. I just want 2 weeks vacation that would have been owed to me had I not left.

I'm a lunch meeting away from going back. :)

I'll definetly go back! :)

I’m not going back to the “other” company. They decided that they were going to go in a different direction.

I’ve been with this ‘new’ job now for more than a month. (I think I’m working on two)
Anyway, it’s a terrible job and the hours SUCK SUCK SUCK.

There was obvious false advertising for the job. I was supposed to be working as the Organizational Excellence Systems Administrator. But instead, it’s obvious that the Director of this department is looking for a personal executive assistant who can devote more than I’m willing to or able to. His partner is also rather annoyed with the lack of support I’m able to give to him because the first guy is sucking all my time. (Though when neither is around, I’m dog fucking)
Both of them definitely give themselves more esteem to themselves than they are worthy of.
You get what you settle for, so I’m not settling.

I have an interview with the Real Estate board. I just might go back to my roots. They are looking for an Intermediate assistant in the Commercial division. Well, what do you know…my specialty.

*Fingers crossed

I still think it's cool that you worked at a place called 'Siemens'. Damn...Why do Canadians spell everything wrong.

Actually, Siemens is German > and we didn't want to upset them by correcting their spelling. You know what that "nationalist" party did that last time someone pissed in their corn flakes.

You know, if it was enjoyable, they'd call it fun. But, they call it work.

I just checked the other side. It was very green.
