The strangest thing has happened.

I went to the Nathan Haines concert on Saturday night, with my friend Brendon. I had arranged to meet Craig, the guy I have been VERY casually seeing there. So... I did. End of the night rolls around and I suggest we depart for his house, and he goes off at me... turns out he does not like the way Brendon has had his arm around me that night. Now, me and Bren go way back, and are great friends, and it has never been anything more than a plantonic, albiet somewhat cuddly, friendship.

So, I am quite upset, and decide to get a cab up to Craigs later on to talk about this stuff, as I thought it was fucked up.

I get the cab to his place, he is not home, so I get another cab to another friends house, where I stay till about 3.30am, go home, and sleep.

Monday night rolls around, Craig phones up, accuses me of breaking in to his house and stealing money on sat night. His reasons for jumping to this conclusion: He happened to get the very same cab I had just got to my friends, sees his address on the meter, asks who had been there, they say 'some chick with long curly hair and a nose ring'.. ie me... He gets home and discovers window broken, money (one dollar coins) missing... and phones the taxi driver back up, and asks how I paid for my fair... which was in coins.

Things look very, very, bad for me http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/frown.gif... but I didn't do it. And I cant help but think what a bitch fate is. Had I not been concerned enough to want to talk... had I waited for him to get there... had I not offloaded my change on the cab driver... etc.

All I can say is WHY ME??!?!!!??? For fucks sake!!!... of all the fucking shitty things that could possibly happen!!!

This has serious repercussions on me given my chosen career, although he has not taken the matter to the police... it still is damaging to my reputation, and, in all honesty, I had been quite enjoying my time with Craig...

The odd thing is, while in quiet moments pondering my relationship with Craig, it had occured to me that I could see it ending because I was entirely too morally anal retentive and prudish for him (he is a bit of a character) - instead it ends because he thinks I am a psychotic, vindictive thief. Fuck.

...but Buddha's Penis! loves you

i find it strange that somebody would think that you would steal change from them, and break a window to do it. strange that he's suspicious, even. i myself am blown away when people don't trust me, because what can you do? if he doesn't believe you, i can only assume he doesn't know you very well. not that i do, but there you go.

I for one agree with the psychotic diagnosis. http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

He sounds pretty insecure. He must have known you went to his house to confront him over his jealous behavior. It should be pretty obvious you didn't pick his house to rob for cab fare. He sounds like a controlling individual. He is turning the tables on you putting you on the defense over the coin thing. Did you stop to consider he broke the window himself out of anger? Maybe there is no broken window at all. It all sounds fishy.
He doesn't sound like someone most women should be with but I am sure you can handle any thing he dishes out.
Just put a big red "X" on your calendar and call it a bad day. He'll get over it.

What kinda friend accuses another friend of stealing? Even if he was near the scene of the crime I'd be hard pressed to accuse him. That fucker. You got some strange friends, muffy. This is why I am a solitary person, you can trust people these days. http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/mad.gif

I'm no lawyer, but something doesn't fit here.

The case for the prosecution...

You took a taxi, you broke into the guys house, then you paid the taxi.

What the taxi waited for you to do the burglary to get it's fare? or did you keep it waiting and go further with it?

Thankyou for the kind words - it means a lot to me http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif

Yeah, I find the whole change thing weird myself... If I was going to steal his change I would have gone straight for the drawer full of over six hundred dollars worth of loose change that I know he has in his room rather than stuff that would be noticed...
Yes, it would appear he does not know me very well. A mutual friend of ours, who knows us both very well, has assured him I would not do it... he won't listen http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/frown.gif

Well, I can see his logic, but I can't see why he can not consider the possibility that it WASN'T me. I don't think he would have set the whole thing up to be a prick... you never know... but highly unlikely from what I have seen so far.
He seemed very sweet, I guess I just have lousy judgement http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/frown.gif
As for me coping with anything he throws my way... I think you actually think I am a lot harder than what I actually am Dog Breath, I am VERY upset over this, and have been without motivation, distracted, and generally fucking depressed for the past 3 days. He won't talk about it with me either.

As for the calendar thing, interesting you should say that, as a somewhat humerous side note (you have to see the humour in these things) - It happened exactly a year and a day after I was arrested, (May the 4th), and I am officially noted on my census form as my religion being 'Jedi' (May the fourth be with you - International starwars day http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif)... Maybe the spirits don't have a sense of humour. My flatmate reckons she is going to lock me in my room next May the 4th to ensure nothing else happens.

One with serious trust issues would be my guess http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/frown.gif. Yep... I certainly know how to pick 'em.

No, different Taxi... but I appreciate the defence! http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif

Well, I don't know what the fuck is going to happen. But - We have both been invited to the same party tomorrow night... I'm sure this will be very fucking interesting if he shows up. I'm in two minds to smack him in the head at the moment as I have gone from misery and self pity to pure and simple rage. Bastard would probably do me for assault though... and he's a black belt so I would get my fury little arse kicked. I do feel like he is causing me way more mental suffering than is acceptable, because he won't even consider that I might not have done it. Wouldn't a mature and rational person at least be willing to take into account the fact that I was wearing high heels and a chiffon (flimsy delicate fabric) dress that night, which is hardly practical wear for a spot of B&E (you only have to look at chiffon the wrong way and it tears)... Also, as I explained to him, I quite frequently have lots of coins on me, as Rosa, the lady who runs the cafe where I play pool, always gives me my change in dollar coins for the pool table. Then there is the fact that it would be kind of dumb for me to break in to his house, steal money, phone a taxi, and wait at the end of his driveway for fifteen minutes knowing that he could be home at any minute??? If I was going to be a psychotic, vindictive thief, I would like to think I would at least be an intelligent psycho. I don't know... I think it seems fairly credible even from an objective point of view that it was unlikely to have been me. Craig was also arrested last year for importing class A drugs, he got off with a fine because is is a 'respectable buisness man' etc... but, it was common knowledge that the drugs came as a farewell gift from a friend in the States, it was all over the newspaper - Newspaper article (http://www1.odt.co.nz/cgi-bin/search-display-story-online-new?PATH=08Apr2000/editorial/content/E7H09G1559KS.html&WORDS=craig+john+mcnaughton&DB=Editorial) ... the same friend who happened to be in town this past weekend - Knowing that, isnt it even remotely possible that someone was looking for drugs??? For all he knows, by going around there, I may have scared off a potential proper burglary... christ knows the guy has a lot of stuff which would be worth stealing.... Yet he still thinks it was me.... PLEASE... tell me that is irrational if you think so... I certainly do.

Fuck the last time I read of an acid bust in NZ it was some gormless geezer in Timaru I think who was done for selling sliced up stamps or something wrapped in sellotape.

He wasn't even selling drugs, the judge told him that it was time he grew up and slapped a 9 month prison sentence on him for offering to supply class A.

You gotta hand it to the NZ legal system, consistant it aint.

In her nose silly!

Muffy, I think you are underestimating yourself. I am sure this will work out fine. I definitely agree he has trust issues and I think he is using the B&E thing to push you away not really believing you did it, hence his refusal to even consider you did not do it. If he looked at it logically he would no longer be justified in hurting you so that is out of the question. He is afraid of you and is putting up barriers.
I still think you are a wonderfully psychotic, tuff, and conflicted bitch. I mean that in the most flattering way. http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
He has never been exposed to a woman of your dynamic abilities and is scared you will wear the "daddy pants" in the relationship. If you confront him privately I believe he will back down. If you confront him publicly he will have no option but to escalate things.
My advice is for you to call him up. If he is home say "don't go anywhere, I'm coming over". Go to his house when you know he will be alone and confront him. Don't give him a choice, just do it. Either you will leave screaming at him and the conflict will be over or you should bring some condoms. http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
