The last one was $139 at its cheapest (that I could find) and is nothing more than a voice/phone recorder. Because of its alalog-only interface, 10 hours of recordings require 10 hours to convert into WAV files.

This one (http://www.jmtek.com/website/products/mp4n1.html) was $89, has a USB port which allows 9 hours of recording to be uploaded to my system in roughly 28 minutes and acts as a removable drive.

MP3's, 9 levels of subdirectories, data file storage, a radio tuner and the sound quality doesn't suck.

The radio tuner is not part of the main unit but a seperately powered portion of the included set of earbob headphones. The phones I regularly use (http://www.recommendedbuys.co.uk/electronics/headphones/panasonic-rphg17.htm) are compatible.

Xfers from system to the module via USB are quick. When the USB cable is connected, the single AAA battery is not required as the USB connection provides power to the unit.

128 megabytes in something smaller than a lighter. Me like thus far.

Appreciated.

Here's something that bugged me so I fixed it:

I pay about $4 US per month for Launchcast Plus. Recording the stuff I've already paid for onto analog is a chore but it allows me to listen to my stuff without using system resources. I've done it while I sleep, for instance, and listened later.

Once I got this little MP3 player, I wondered if there was a way to take out the analog portion.

Yup. Lo and behold, software is available that allows you to record directly from your soundcard and store the results as MP3 files.

My MP3 player is now populated with a selection of songs from my LaunchCast station.

The process is a bit roundabout but the result is me with a bunch of MP3's that I've already paid for but could not previously listen to on demand.

End Result: My station is in my pocket.
