"Music to my ears." is a very sexist comment. My comment was intended to be rude, and it appears to have achieved it's intended purpose - it bent you. Unfortunately, I'd bet from the tone of your comment that you don't even consider it rude.
Get bent? Bend over, darlin'.
Barbie
01-07-2004, 07:21 PM
How about, your comment was rude was and only because this thread was about Flit's *endevor* and you choose to be insulting by calling a woman a bitch.
And why did you call me a bitch? Because I saw IMMEDIATELY that women are getting their just dues and pointed out the good news. And good on Flit. Good on women.
And I don't fancy myself as being sexist Simon. Who's telling who to bend over?
SimpleSimon

I am very much aware that you don't fancy yourself as being sexist, as evidenced above. Nevertheless, you display an openly sexist attitude in this thread and (infrequently) in others. As, occasionally, do I.
Who's telling who to bend over?
I believe that would be you.
get bent
Barbie

get bent does not mean bend over.
It's a far more polite way of saying get fucked.
Let blunt that "Sexist Bitch!"
SimpleSimon
01-07-2004, 08:08 PM
I was responding at your level, Barbie. I am well aware of the usage of the colloquialism "get bent", and told you too bend over in the same vein.
My original comment was not off-the-cuff - I used those two words because they said exactly what I meant to say without possibility of misinterpretation.
Barbie
01-07-2004, 08:47 PM
You were not responding me to me on the same level Simon.
You called me a sexist bitch because of the level of enjoyment I have for Flit and for women in general.
Instead of a step up Simon, your comment was step on.

Music to my ears.
That is pure sexism, nothing but. If you revel in that, focussing upon an aspect of the person over which they have no control you are by implication belittling the persons accomplishments that are under their control. You sound like Louis Farrakhan saying, "I am not racist. Only white men in power can be racist!"
Don't like that fact? Think before you crow. I called you sexist - you are. I called you bitch because it fit in the context of your post.
By saying I was responding on your level, Barbie, I was by no means implying I was stepping "up" - if anything it was a sharp descent. In any case, that comment was directed toward your "get bent" response, not your initial comment.
Sexism is rampant, and by your very comment that you don't fancy yourself as sexist, you perpetuate the attitudes. Want to congratulate Flit on her election? By all means do so - an accomplishment of Flit's, not women.
I split this out of flit's thread so it could have its own life if it chooses.
I didn't move it to the barathrum so you could find it. (if it persists it'll go there)
you are more than free to continue and now you have a nice place to do so
:)

I find that somewhat funny...
Simon starts out calling her a sexist bitch, and when she gets mad, he resorts to the worded posts that one almost has to have a dictionary handy to read.
You sure are explaining yourself quite a bit there Simon. Justifying?

Nope, just responding to Barbie. I actually think there is some hope she might be able to perceive her own sexism, although to date I have only that - a hope.

i just don't think that being excited about an all-woman school board is a sexist thing. it is an accomplishment for Flit and for all the other female board members.
i would venture to say that this has never been such before on that school board (although i could be wrong).
i'm not some man-hating feminazi, but i am deeply connected to my woman-ness and that sisterhood it creates with all women. and being proud of that and of our accomplishments in the face of residual inequalities is not sexist.
on a side note: why are there words for woman-haters (misogynists) and people-haters (misanthropes) but not for man-haters?
i'm still waiting for that sexy bitch thread! :)

You know what...there is more than just hope. I know I'm pro woman and that I will stand up proud and smile and cheer a woman/women for getting in there and making a difference. And when I recognize a good thing, I'll call on it. I am however, not sexist.
However, the original thread was about Flit's endevor and Simon choose to smack it up with slander.
And as I stated earlier, your comment was not step up (or a step in the right direction) but rather a step on.

Bitter people tend use sarcasm, hold critical attitudes, self-righteousness, negative feelings, and frequent conflicts with others.

I had to use the Blue's Clues memory cue. You know: Go back go back go back, go back to where you were. (http://www.thehypertribe.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=8465&highlight=misogynist%2A)
It's time to coin those words dammit!
hmmm
lets say that flit hadn't been elected and instead every member of that school board was man
would the girl's be singing "the best candidates won"?
or
"its the old boy network!!"
I'm afraid that some women sing the praises of women not from pride but to remind them of th econstantly implied sexism of males.
now I gotta ask a question:
to what extent do you think men (especially white men) achieve rank and success in modern north american societies based on the IMPLIED benefits of a sexist, racist system designed to impede others?
And do you think that federal laws actually did much for women's social acceptance in the roles they choose to pursue?
I think women marching in the street saying we WILL be allowed to do things if we choose, did most of that.
god you are all such colour fags
i cant replay to the thread because my eyes are bleeding in pain of the fucking pink attack

Read that this way:
i'm not some woman-hating nazi, but i am deeply connected to my male-ness and that brotherhood it creates with all men. and being proud of that and of our accomplishments in the face of residual inequalities is not sexist
Now tell that is not a sexist statement. If you do, you lie to yourself and everyone who reads it.
on a side note: why are there words for woman-haters (misogynists) and people-haters (misanthropes) but not for man-haters?

Residual inequalities? Those run both ways, sisters. And despite the pleas and pretty words, if the attitudes displayed here in this thread are anything to judge by, sexism is far more rampant amongst the women than amongst the men.
Not surprising after two generations of social engineering aimed at removing glaring inequalities and injustices.

Good. I'm glad your are proud of your femaleness. Are you proud to have two eyes, two legs, two arms, etc? All things which you did not accomplish, and which are meaningless as to being sources of pride. You are, without doubt, sexist. You prove it more with every post.
However, the original thread was about Flit's endevor and Simon choose to smack it up with slander.

It is only slander if it isn't true. It clearly is true.

Opinions are like assholes, Barbie, everyone has them and they all stink. My answer may lack in your estimation, but then it is not your estimation it need satisfy, only my own.
Bitter people tend use sarcasm, hold critical attitudes, self-righteousness, negative feelings, and frequent conflicts with others.
Looked in a mirror lately? Sarcasm is a form of humor, not a mark of bitterness. Critical attitudes come from informed judgment - labelling you sexist was not criticism, it was evaluation. Now, bitch is in fact an expression of a negative feeling - mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! Frequent conflicts? Define frequent. Define conflict. What you perceive is in your eyes, not necessarily reality.
I notice this alot. I don't know you Simon and you don't know me.

Nope, you don't know me, nor do I know you. Our mutual loss, I'm sure. As to what you notice a lot, it is usually what you project that you notice most.
"Why hound?" Why not? Admit your comment was sexist, reflecting sexist attitudes (which is true), and there is nothing to hound about.

Sorry Venus, I write the way I talk, pretty much. Ask Mac, or Mudflap, or PB, or EA, or anyone who knows me. If I use words that say in a word or short phrase exactly what I mean, instead of a paragraph of short simple words that only approximate my meaning, that is just the way it is. Buy a dictionary.
For that matter, look in Barathrum, at this thread (http://www.thehypertribe.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7597) and you will see that even when flaming someone, I tend to use the same vocabulary.

I fail to see how the concept of 'womanhood' exists, realistically.
Most of them I've encountered were self-absorbed, inconsiderate people. Not an exaggeration - though considering aggregate female population in the US, I could be wrong about everyone. I don't care.
You want solid proof of sexism? Were the pathetic school board all male in composition, there would inevitably be an uproar - "women's interests are not being represented! what about our daughters?!" or something similar.
Furthermore: sorry, kids...but women do not deserve extra attention, generosity, favors, or anything else of the sort that is doled out on a regular basis to sate the extremists in our society. You want MY job, you'd damn well better do what I can. Same goes for everything else in life you can think of not related to this topic. Same goes for all the poor ol' oppressed special groups in life - racial, sexual, or religious.
Venus - sorry for singling you out again, but out of all the contextual posts here yours was the only one basically stating that Simon's post was too hard to read. Further, the best defense you could muster was egotistical and emotional in nature, from what I can tell at a glance. The verdict? You're as dumb as a fucking turnip. :p Please go at least learn the English language. Please. I beg you to.
Kudos on the shizzle, Flit, but you were absolutely petty in your perspective of it and/or reaction. Fly a kite, womyn!
And just as a bonus - the worst drivers I encounter are either women or suburbanite, yuppie males. Elderly women are the absolute worst of the lot.

Good on Flit for getting elected and good on all the women that will serve with her. They should be proud of their efforts, but not their gender.
that's what mudflap wants...for everyone to be genderless, its part of his diabolical plan to get all the porn starlets for himself
he MUST be stopped

All I did was post a link to an article that said that an all women school board was sworn in - I've stayed out of this debate other than that. If there were 6 men and myself on the board, I would STILL be honored to serve on it and my goals would not change. Either way - I'm a newbie at this and I have a lot of learning to do from EVERYONE involved in the school system, whether they be female or male.

I used to have a friend named Amber. I still like Amber, but I couldn't talk to her very much because everything that came out of my mouth was analized, thought about in depth, and turned into more than it was. She read a little too much into everything that was said, and it always had some hidden meaning. Honestly, I think that's what Simon's doing here. Barbie was simply saying congrats to Flit, and congrats to the others that made the board. Suddenly, that means she sexist. Simon, you're reading way too much into what we are all saying. The fact that the board is all women isn't nessissarily sexist considering men voted for this too. Would I have a problem with an all male board? Not at all, as long as they were elected by both men and women. Obviously the men that voted for them felt that they were the best fit to do the job. I just think Simon's reading too much into a statement, analizing something that isn't really there. Of course, I always failed the poetry section of English classes because of my refusal to automatically assume there's more to it than what I read. One stands out the most. It was a poem by some famous guy, I don't remember his name. He was leaving a note for his wife that he ate the plum in the fridge. I got an F on that one because my response was, the guy ate the plum and was telling his wife. Why is there always something else in the meaning of the words?
EA, I know I'm not the smartest person here, and I know my vocabulary isn't the most extensive on the board. I'm ok with that, but it doesn't make me stupid.

dammit, this whole debate sucks. you kids just don't know how to leave anything alone, do you?
and this, ladies and gentlemen, is why our public school system is in the shape it's in. because of bullshit like this that has nothing to do with children or education. it doesn't just come up on internet forums and among peers, it comes up in boardrooms and commitee meetings, too. people start debating about the representation of the female board members, and the male board members, and the muslim-christian-hispanic-etc board members or committee members because everyone wants to make sure all the interests of all the different types of children are being represented and debating about who is needed to do the best job, and in the meantime nothing gets done to help the children.
i would rather know what kind of issues flit will be facing. what is being proposed about their preschool program? are there going to be any textbook changes to worry about? who will choose them? how much say will the board have? how does the superintendent feel about the issues? how much cooperation are they having from the local junior high boards and principals in making sure their exiting students are prepared for the challenges that face them in the next level of their schooling, or is this even something they talk about? how about the standardized tests?
see, i'm very interested in what flit will actually be doing, and as far as i'm concerned she could be monkey #9 on an all primate board. i'd like to know what the academic atmosphere is like in her state (new hampshire, right?) because who knows, i might end up teaching there. which brings up another question: what kind of say to teachers have in the decisions made by the board?
i really want to know. and i don't care who thinks who is an idiot. i think you're all idiots for perpetuating a juvenile and ridiculous argument.
down to business, ladies and gentlemen.

Barbie was doing much more than congratulating Flit. She repeated the headline in part twice, each time focussing more pointedly on an aspect well outside Flit's control - her gender. No analysis was needed.
That is why I called her a sexist bitch, and why I continue to maintain that the attitude dispayed in her post warranted the response.
Venus, please do me a favor - check the spelling of words before you post. Analize has a totally different meaning from the word you clearly intended to use - analyze.
