Detailed Forecast for Sampson County, NC
Winter Storm Warning:
Issued at: 4:55 AM EST 1/25/04, expires at: 11:00 AM EST 1/25/04
Winter storm warning in effect through midnight tonight.
Across the sandhills and coastal plain, including, laurinburg, fayetteville, smithfield, goldsboro and clinton, the precipitation will begin around mid morning as mostly sleet mixed with freezing rain, then change over to predominantly freezing rain in the afternoon. The precipitation is expected to taper off to a mixture of freezing drizzle or rain tonight. Ice accrual of a quarter of an inch from freezing rain is likely, especially on trees and powerlines. Accumulation of sleet may total another one quarter to one half inch.
Any travel is strongly discouraged. If you leave the safety of being indoors, you are putting your life at risk.
Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations, slow down and allow extra time when traveling. Practice your winter safety rules, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your car in case of emergency.
Stay tuned to noaa weather radio and other local media for further details or updates.

Now what this basically means is a “mini ice storm”. It’ll last all of two days (today and tomorrow) then the ice will began its meltdown Tuesday with the warmer temps.
There will be a couple of ditched vehicles (not abandoned, but in a ditch) because of dumbasses. There will be a few fender benders of cars/trucks sliding through intersections because of dumbasses. Just as sure as I’m sitting here, the grocery stores are full of people buying milk and bread (the two most perishable items I can think of to stock). A little snow and ice around here spins people into pandemonium.
Bah, stupid people.

Nope. 2x6 plywood and OSB board regular houses stuffed with the Pink stuff.
We crank the heat though. Monthly average gas bill is about $90 in the winter and Electricity is about $80 in the winter. (Thats on a 1400sf house)
Does that seem cold to you?

-32 (-45 with windchilll) - not as bad as forecasted with the -38.
Mike's car wouldn't start this morning. Course the sillyhead parked with his front end exposed and not plugged in. Unless we jump it, it's not going to start until at least Friday when it's suppose to warm up conciderably.
I watched last night on CBC's Monday Report that Canada has been thinking of buying some island...Turks or something....
I'll find the link.
THAN YOU'LL SEE MAC...WE CAN DO THAT SUNBURNING TOO IN THE WINTER.
Hell, we can do that now on the top of Sunshine Mountain. :)

Yesterday in Key Lake Saskatchewan it was -52 ambient. Noted as the coldest place on earth. With the windchill, it dipped down to -60+. Sad. It was colder than Antarctica and the Arctic.
Ya.
I think I want to move to some warmth. Though the cold is good on the skin and for the circulation. But I don't know that I want to get stuck out in that weather. No point in improving the complexion or the circulation if the cold kills you.

mark scirto, otherwise known around these parts as "lying bastard weather nazi" (i mean that in the nicest way possible; i've met him and he really is a nice guy, just a lying bastard weather nazi) said it was going to be something like 60 degrees today.

my daughter went outside and played in it until her fingers and toes were too cold. me and the kids across the street built a snowman, then tore him apart to throw snowballs at each other. it was a heck of a war for a few minutes there. then we came inside and i made hot cocoa.
the forecast says that by thursday it will be 70 degrees.
i love texas.
ummm
reference:
3 years ago it snowed on both christmas eve AND new years eve
but it rarely snows that frequently
I don't think it's snowed since then
every couple of years we get a day like this
data:
if I took a shovel and dug 8 inches deep in the soil it'd be 60 degrees
for us to get 2 inches of snow on the ground with an air temp of 35 degrees its gotta snow a bunch
as I watch , its melting
tomorrow will be mid 50's
driving hazards:
#1) half the ppl use it for an excuse to NOT go anywhere or do anything
#2) the other half have cabin fever within 1 hour
#3) 1 in 10 idiots says "I can drive fine in the snow. I'm RUNNING to the store brb"
they call within the hour for a tow
#4) 3 out of 10 idiots are terrified to drive in anythign that doesn't look like rain (which they drive 70mph in) and they drive 55 (which they think is incredibly slow)
there are no snow plows, no salt trucks, no tire chains, etc
this is when you learn how much you actually enjoy your "life"

Heh...I can drive in snow, and have - professionally, and at leisure. These fuckwits simply can't drive, period.
It's been kinda weaving between 40+ to 60 degrees, depending on cold fronts and the like. Overall, very comfortable and nice...I leave the window down while on the job/commute home. :)
