...are you willing to make the changes. Are you tough enough to go in there and provide leadership." (http://www.nytimes.com/2003/08/21/national/21ARNO.html?ex=1062043200&en=f884f69ff8804a0f&ei=5062&partner=GOOGLE)

he's right.

We sit idly by allowing for taxation from every level to pay for things we cannot or will not do for ourselves and expect leadership to handle the allocation of our funds to the things we want.
We ar ebusy with our lives, homes, friends, familys, educations, jobs, hobbys, pets, etc. We know that unsecure borders and bad roads will affect us and that they require a unified concerted effort to control. But we also think that transfatty acids and abortion are too big for us to handle.

We need protection from worms the get in our computers and plant trojans that send spam mail and viruses.
Its just too much to understand.

Every time guns show up there's a crime involved.
Every time a pit bull makes the news he mauled a kid.
SUV's really DO kill ppl.
Old ppl really can't afford their medicine.

And all we really, really want is to hear our leadership say "We have it under control. We are making progress. We are making the tough decisions to fix these problems and make it fair."

Arnold is 100% correct.
Have you ever heard a candidate give a REAL specific answer about anything other than their one or two pet issues?

No. It goes like this:

Broad, general sentence or two with some sort of focus point or catch phrase that sounds like the mission statement from Jerry Mcgwyer. Then an example of what's going on right now and how that is wrong. Then another broad generalisied "I think" sentence about what should be done without one single number or fact in it.

So what do they expect from arnold?
We have "A" number of illegal immigrats, with $"B" we can hire "C" of officer "D" and "E" of officer "F" to patrol "G" & "H" thus removing "I"% of illegals and saving "H" jobs.

That's how my banker talks.

The ppl want to get excited, have an opinion, vote, and wake up to good streets, plenty of electric, clean water, and too many rules to be held accountable for knowing them.

They want things to work and be too complex for anyone to expect you to understand them. They want a man in charge to blame and a giant powerful entity to levy God-like taxation upon them as penance for benefiting form the existance of nice things and a sound society.

Arnold is correct.

Too bad Mel Blanc is dead. Bugs Bunny would kick Arnold's ass in a debate. Pixar and Dreamworks might have even united for the common good.

God. Another puppet. I wonder who's got their hand up Arnold's ass.

Ok. I'm the rodent, I smell the cheese. There's the maze....

No really. Why is Arnold a republican? I ask because I don't know.

O Lord, don't let me get shot for my curiosity.

Amen.

yes, arnold was born in austria
his father was, in some way, a supporter of the nazi party
(tho lots of ppl in his generation where so thats not saying much)
his wife is a kennedy and an outspoken liberal
arnold is an outspoken "fiscal conservative"

but he's a monetarian. he does things based on the flow of money

nothing wrong with that, he might even turn out to be a really good governor IF he's not worried about party politics

but he's commiting sin #1 in his campaign; he's telling the truth

he's making general statements about the incredibly grotesque problems facing california due to its current leadership and following up with general declarations of change.

no, he's not offering facts and figures, but he does appear to be keeping it level in his banter so far.

the news is gonna chew on him for not offering details.
when he does offer details (which I think would be stupid prior to the first press conference after his election :o ) they will chew on him because he's only addressing "this or that".

ppl want to know that their leaders are doing their job
ppl want to know that their store will have the products they need
ppl want to pick up the phone and call your ass righ tnow and you answer!!! (thats why you have acell phone and a hoem phone and a car phone and email, etc)

this is security
in this parade of fury for comfort of mind our individual freedom is lost

About the only thing I see that Arnold has going for him is that he has one of the best business men in the World assisting him. That's what government essentially is, a business. And Arnold's already locking horns with him ( see Prop. 13 issues.)

Arnold is giving the same rhetoric that all politicians give. Just once I'd like to hear a politician say "it's fucked. We need to strip it back to the basics and build it back up again. Hold on to your asses, it's going to be a bumpy ride." I could respect that.

Government is a business. So why do we allow it to fail?

Annual Stock holders meeting = State of the Union address
CEO = President of the United States
Shareholders = Citizens.

Now, in every company in which I hold stock, if the business isn't making money, their is mass uprising from the stockholders and heads roll. Thus, the CEO does whatever it takes to make his company financially sound and cuts wherever he or she needs to.

Why doesn't government work that way?

Arnie speaking out of both sides of his face??? (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A27397-2003Aug21?language=printer)

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger would consider boosting taxes to mend the state's battered finances and lift its rock-bottom credit rating, the Republican's spokesman said on Thursday.

While the movie star running to replace Gov. Gray Davis in an Oct. 7 recall election said on Wednesday he opposed tax hikes except to possibly deal with something like a natural disaster, his spokesman told Fox News that huge budget shortfalls and protecting the state's credit could warrant such increases.

"The truth of the matter is it could be as high as $20 billion," campaign spokesman Sean Walsh said in reference to a potential budget deficit.

"We do not know what the totality of this fiscal situation is. For all we know, there may be zero dollars in the bank. So, you never say never."

Schwarzenegger's main Republican challengers have both vowed to oppose any tax increases and the issue is a critical one among the state's conservative voters who support the unprecedented recall election.

Republicans in the legislature also held up a new budget for the fiscal year that began on July 1 over their opposition to proposed tax increases -- a standoff which drove the state's credit rating even lower and fueled the recall drive.

The fiscal woes are one reason why Standard & Poor's last month slashed California's credit -- already the lowest among U.S. states -- to a high-risk level just above junk status.

Many analysts and investors have suggested that California needs to take the politically unpopular step of curbing spending and considering tax increases to get its financial house in order.

From Mac's quoted article:
"Does that mean we are going to make cuts?" he said. "Yes. Does this mean education is on the table? No. Does this mean I am willing to raise taxes? No. Additional taxes are the last burden we need to put on the backs of the citizens and businesses of California."

government is supposed to be efficient, but thus far its NOT supposed to show a profit

I agree there may be an angle there

but personally I would liek to see the ancient concept of keeping their interests focused on mediating and performing their universal tasks rather than catering to intrest groups

...easier said than done

but hell yeah! the gov't should give a stock holder meeting and show us how they are doing well with our money

ppl tend to loose interest in things that loose them money.

hard to sleep at night when you feel that 20%+ of your income goes to a gov't you don't trust to spend it?

....not if you can blame THEM.
