I don't have any references to site aside from personal experience.

Within the next few months, hourly employees at my workplace will "clock in" with a fingerprint scan.

Thoughts?

The company I work for sells a software product that can use the Digital Persona fingerprint scanner as a security application for clocking in & out, manager functions, etc. The image is not saved, it is digitally transformed into a mathematical set of points that the software stores. In my line of work, they are an advantage to managers for two reasons - one being that you have to be there to clock in and two being that manager functions (voids, discounts, etc) are secure (staff is not looking over the shoulder and memorizing a password). As far as my technical perspective is concerned, they are a pain in the neck to support. They connect through a USB, they come unplugged, get dirty, sometimes don't read, give error messages and are generally annoying. Here is a link to the website of the company that manufactures the ones we use. http://www.digitalpersona.com

The guy who scratches his ass constantly... Something tells me he won't clean up first.

Since it's already happening and there are no standards, what say we create some?

It will definitely cut down or eliminate on time clock fraud. I recently terminated two people who were clocking each other in and out to take advantage of the company. I'm sure that it happens all of the time and increases in frequency with larger companies. Even using your SSN or "employee number" can be done fraudulantly.

It would also be nice to have the recognition on our registers, locked doors and other security items so I could get rid of the damned key ring I have to keep.
