Sorry to hear that mute. I know you can't really put a positive spin on these things, but at least you're all grown up now. And just think - twice the presents!

Honestly.... I'm really sorry.

It all depends on how you define "normal". Perhaps "traditional" is a better word. At my daughter's school she is normal precisely because her mother and I separated :). The kids with parents who married and are still together are in the minority. I wonder if we'll ever get to the point where kids get teased at school because their parents are still together? :)

I hope that things work out as well as they can for you. You said that you sort of wanted this to happen. Were things that bad between them?

I was 19 when my parents divorced after 22 years of marriage
we never had alot of money, or possessions. They couldn't afford to send me to junior college (I had to get grants and go to work)
by the time I finished my associates degree my mom was dead and my child was on the way.

somethings in life you can consciously, directly affect
somethings you indirectly affect and maybe you can work that to your advantage or screw up.
somethings you can't do a damn thing about

this is a real good time to become incredibly independant and decide what choices you will offer yourself and what you refuse to be cornered into. You sound like you have pretty good grasp on it.

I've heard that "mutual split, nothing in common anymore" before
It's just a giant pile of bullshit.
I'll stop there before I get insulting.

But I have been where you are and I'm telling you:

Don't do what I did.

It will be come holidays, and occasions and such. Just make sure you're not trying to hide from it. It'll catch up and bite yer ass.
