any one who has ever read anything that i have submited know how i feel(for the most part) about religion, and that i am a"non believer" for about 15 years now i have wanted to hold the title, the power to marry and bury so i paid the money and against everything i believe in, i became an ordained minister!! cool huh?. well after i did it i realized(because of my feelings of religion)that it was almost like making a mockery of other peoples beliefs. i felt that it was a little disrespectful after all my mother is one of those goddamn christians. so i denounced my ordainment and am now just a regular joe(just like you)who once had the power to marry someone or could lay them to rest(like all that bullshit is necessary). could i possibley contadict myself more???
billy man.. honey that's kinda messed up. But i won't knock you for what you did. We are all free to make our own choices even if they seem strange by others. I do agree that it was making a mockery of others faiths though. As for me and religion/ I use to be very big into the whole "christian scene" even recorded a gospel CD one time. I have come to a point in my life that I do believe there is a god. I have just not discovered in what way i want to believe. I think that the whole religion ordeal is a big contradiction to itself. But i am a firm believer that... if you find a tree and worship that tree and it makes you happy and gives you meaning in life... then worship your tree... just don't get mad at me when I do not think as much about your tree as you do, type of thing! I believe there is something out there, just do not think that the so called religious figures quite have it all right!

But i do envy those that have faith!
The ones that have the ability to believe in something and not question it.
i wish that i could have that, but i ask way too many questions! but i envy those that are able to "just believe"

Your welcome! i enjoy being here, cause i can be me, i say what i want, and no one jumps on me for it, atleast not yet! Even the people on this board that know the physical me, do not know the real me. RW probably knows more than anyone else. i was always afraid to be me in fear that those who knew the me i presented would not like me as me.. i am slowing finding out that it is the other way around. although the ones that try to adjust seem to find themselves lost somewhere in the middle. Sometimes i shock people with my perverted thinking, and my ability to just be blunt! but to each their own i suppose. but i am glad that it is appreciated somewhere and by someone even if i have no idea who you are. SOmetimes strangers can be the best companions, but i guess then they truely aren't strangers any more now are they?

Where do we draw the line? I understand ( and do ) respect an individual's right to practice any religion that they choose. But again, where do we draw the line?
When does having respect for a person's beliefs anger me? When they start to take precident (sp.) over my non-beliefs.
Examples:
1.) I am required as an employer to allow certain religious freedoms to my associates. ( i.e. giving them Sundays off or work around their church schedules. )
2.) In a court of law, I must "swear to God" to tell the truth.
3.) "One nation, under God" is included in our Country's pledge.
I have a vast array of examples of "influences" that the local religion has on my State. I just feel it's WRONG to make God such a big part of Government.
If you want to believe in a Higher Power, and this makes you as better person, more power to you. Just remember, I was born right the first time and want nothing to do with it.

My philosophy is a simple one. If you don't know something is wrong then for you it isn't. If you know something is wrong then for you it is. Laws, rules, religious practices, etc... aside, right and wrong with respect to morality and ethics is a personal matter.
Yes sometimes we are forced to do things that are morally wrong. Paying taxes is an example. It is morally wrong to violate your principles even if you are forced to by law. Also not doing something the law demands may not necisarily be wrong or immoral if you truely believe you are in the right. Being in the right will not keep you out of traffic court or jail but some choices ....actually all choices must be balanced with their consequences.
To quote Shakespere..."To thine own self be true".
I don't think God is keeping score. When you betray yourself you only hurt yourself. That is the only true sin IMHO.
I realise this is not conventional Christian rhetoric but it is logical and is the only way to make sense of religion to me.

Woof.

People who "just believe" are mendicates.
They are the stuff that makes religions into mythology.
Faith comes from testing the bounds of your questions.
Its where you arrive at an answer despite the fact you really can't prove it except to believe it.
