I think it was a great movie. But there's also tons of other movies that are great in my opinion. So why post a topic on this one? Well because I think lots of people would hate this movie for only one sole reason, because Tom Hanks is in it.

It just really irritates me that people have these things against actors for some odd, and stupid, reason. CHRIST, it's just an actor doing a pretty good job.

Interesting point mojo.

I've heard people say they wouldn't watch this or that because this guy or that girl was in it. How fucking stupid is that? I mean really. I can't think of an actor that irks me enough to turn down a supposedly good movie.

Just to give a few examples:

Jon Claud Van Dam CANNOT act, at all, but I like 99% of the movies he has been in.

Arnold Schwarzenegger CANNOT act and can barely speak understandable English but I like virtually all his movies.

There are others, you see what I'm getting at.

I may be a big movie buff, or not, but when I watch movies I look for: Good story, good acting, no cheese, etc.. For example another Hanks movie Catch Me If You Can was a great film, but alas I bet there was a lot of people who wouldn't see it because of both actors in it.

I just didn't like the movie Catch Me If You Can. I happen to think Leanardo DeCrappio couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. And yes, it's that reason that I didn't like the movie. If you don't like an actor because you think he can't act, then it's a perfactly good reason to not go see a movie.
Another example: I refuse to see any movie that has Tom Green in it. Period, end of story. I will not waste my money on the kind of junk that he does. So yes, he will be the reason I don't go see a movie. I think that's a perfactly valid reason to miss a movie.

i agree with you Venus. I personally don't know many people who do not like Tom Hanks, but I get the message. Leonardo DiCaprio is one actor whom I just do not like. I don't think he can act, with the exception of two movies he did a pretty decent job in. One is "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" And the one, he didn't do anywhere near as good of a job, but overall it wasn't horrible and that was Titanic. I have seen him a couple of other things, and just thought he was terrible.

You guys just proved a point. You don't like Leo Fagatro because he can't act. You already assume that whatever movie he is in will automatically suck. But you can think of one or two movies he was "good" in (as amazing as that is). So do you look at a movie advertisement on TV and say; "it's not going to be worth a shit" simply because of a certain actor? You've already said he sucks BUT did good in this or that. (I'm not defending Fagatro by any means here folks, i'm just baffled)

Venus points out Tom Green and the movies he's been in. Is it Green himself or the fact the you already assume before hand that whatever movie he is in will include much "stupid humor". See, I get a kick out of stupid humor, I think it's freakin' hilarious even though people like Tom Green can't act for shit.

Just me and my mind here:

I refuse to label any actor. I've seen "greats" do shitty stuff because they chose shitty roles in cheap movies. I've seen "no acting dip shits" leave me in "awe". I can't stand that bitch J-Lo but she doesn't do a bad job in movies. She isn't my first choice in movie rentals but I haven't seen one yet I was utterly disappointed in either, some were better than others though.

I am taken aback constantly by the truly talented too. Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Mel Gibson........just to name a few. Think of all the movies they've done. From serious roles to all out comedy, these guys can do it all and do it well whether you like them or not.

Yes!

Something I think that is overlooked in movies is the music. Be it who composes, what songs do they use or if there is music at all. and ooo... . yeah ...

I didn't say I judge the movie on the actor that is in it. I simply said that I didn't like Leonardo DiCapio. There have been movies that he has been in that he was horrible. There are a couple of movies that he was pretty good in. BUT, if I see the previews of a movie and think the story line is pretty good or something that will interest me, then YES I will see the movie. You think I may have proven your point, but I didn't. Nowhere in my post did I say I will not see a movie simply because Leo D. is in it. BTW there is no right answer here. It all subjective.

It's time to stick up for what is right. I will no longer sit by and listen to people try and back up awful movies, and say they don't like someone they honestly don't know. I hate Heraldo Rivera because he's a jackass and proves it, for gods sake he's a journalist!

This just doesn't have to do with movies as you can see, it's about people telling lies and rumors. Like the Enquirer. What's the big fucking deal if Adam Sandler had to walk his bike home because the tire popped? Just because young dumb teenage girls like Leo D. isn't a reason to dislike him. He's probably trying to do what he dreamed of doing. But when there's fame, there comes problems you have to deal with.

Journalism is not an art. It could have been but they all ruined it for themselves. I don't know where I'm going with this but I'm saying a lot of people's opinions on movies suck. That's a statement I'm already willing to take back, but I need some response :)

I knew the exact the answer my brother's cynical friend would say the same thing about Road to Perdition, "It sucks." And why would he thinks it sucks? Oh yes, because of Tom Hanks and how he can't ever play a villain in a movie. "It sucked, oooo look at me I always play good roles." Yes that's true, he's never actually played a bad guy. But it still astonishes me why all these people hate Tom Hanks (I'm just using him for example). Most of the people that hate him are like the people that go to the Stile Project Forum. I couldn't fit the class of person into a few words so I used the SPF as an example. Cynical, depressed and/or someone who is angry with something popular in this world.

I'm not going to sit by and listen to people say things about people they really don't know. Take an actor for example. Frankly, none of you know dick all about John Doe. The only way you can actually 'know' them is by watching TV or reading magazines with articles or interviews with them in it. And still, that doesn't produce cold hard facts about them.

So the next time your looking for a movie to watch, why not trying to see if the story is good rather than who is in the movie, like Mrs.Kol suggested. I will not tolerate someone picking a Britney Spears movie over a good movie like this, Road to Perdition. So to all you Tom Hanks haters out there, what's so wrong with him? I'm really intrigued as to why.

Call me movie-moj0, and yes I know I suck :)
