Warrenville family attacked, held captive in their home
Police say 3 men invaded house

Three men forced their way into a Warrenville home late Sunday and ordered the family into the basement. They tied up the family members, sexually assaulted one and then robbed them, police said.

The suspects fled into woods in the neighborhood.

The husband answered a knock at the door of his two-story, wood-frame home just before midnight Sunday, Warrenville Police Chief Robert LaDeur said. When he answered, one of the suspects flashed a handgun and three men forced their way into the living room, LaDeur said.

The man, his wife and a daughter were taken to the basement. The intruders left the home about 12:50 a.m. Monday, LeDeur said.

He would not specify what items were stolen. No getaway car was seen, he said.

"Just horrible," LaDeur said. "That's a pretty serious crime for this community."

The incident triggered an investigation by the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force, an association of local police investigators who work on serious crimes.

Monday morning, police dogs sniffed through nearby yards while investigators from Warrenville, Lombard and West Chicago interviewed neighbors. Descriptions of the men, given by the family, were circulated to Illinois State Police and other agencies, LaDeur said. He also said evidence was collected at the home, though he would not specify what it was.

Investigators don't know why the men picked the home, which is on an isolated, dead-end street in a thickly wooded part of Warrenville. LaDeur said the family did not recognize the suspects.

Through the family's description, however, police created computer composites of the suspects. One suspect, who police said displayed the handgun, is described as white, 19 to 26 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 160 to 170 pounds with short hair. He was wearing a black or dark-blue hooded Michigan sweatshirt and dark sweatpants, police say. Another suspect is described as black, with a medium build, 19 to 26 years old, 5-8 to 5-10, with short hair and some chin hair. The third suspect is described as white, 19 to 26, about 5-8 and 140 to 150 pounds.

Anyone with information may call Warrenville police at 630-393-2131.

The small town life simplicity which is so great about my little city is being ripped away.

I'll never understand people who can do such things. Never.

That small town life simplicity doesn't exist, Pianomahnn.

Question: who answers their door at midnight without a gun? I personally know very very few people who would.

I'm so totally with Asmod on this one.

P-dude, it never really matters, doesn't strike any kind of nerve, just another story when it's hundreds of miles away but when it's "close to home" it suddenly takes on a new form doesn't it.

Of course it does.

But, I too agree with Asmod. That's just dumb.

"Investigators don't know why the men picked the home, which is on an isolated, dead-end street in a thickly wooded part of Warrenville. LaDeur said the family did not recognize the suspects."

I think Warrenville needs to get new investigators. What they described is exactly why I would pick a home to rob.

The other statement I really liked is:

"Just horrible," LaDeur said. "That's a pretty serious crime for this community."

I guess it's not that serious crime for the rest of the nation.

It's a serious crime no doubt. But he's refering to it being much more serious in nature than other crimes commited in my town. For instance, Chicago seems to have about 2 murders per day, while LA has about 3 car chases. A burglery for Chicago isn't a very serious crime, although a murder is. A burglery in Warrenville is a serious thing, seeing as we never experience the crimes Chicago does. It's perspective and experience.

See what I'm saying?

MrsKol knew before she posted but look at what SHE is saying, picture it all in another state and town, you'd see the humor in it too. As I said, it's different when it hits that close to home.
