I swear, 3mta3, you demonstrate perfectly why the rest of the world talks about the "ugly Americans".

The Pedersons ARE staying in their own country - Canada, The nation with which the United States shares it's greatest border - a border we have historically bragged about as the "longest undefended border on earth". In fact, it has been so undefended that there are innumerable ungated backroads crossings of it, used daily in the course of business by both the US citizens and the Canadian citizens who dwell along it.

The exigencies of geography place these people at the end of a road that crosses into Canada from the US, but does not connect to any other Canadian road. Thus, Canadian postal delivery has historically crossed into the US, traveled to the Pederson's home, and delivered the mail, returning whence they came.

This is sheer idiotic bureaucratic enforcement of a regulation for the sake of harassment.

Well, whaddya expect when you allow bureaucrats to do anything other than practice wiping their own ass with safety toilet paper?

Oh dude...I thought the 'foreigners' comment would have shown my post for the joke it was...my bad...

And I agree with what youve said for the most part...it is quite silly and stupid but unfortunately its a different world now...one where things like this are an issue...and they shouldnt be...but thats life.

Cross-border mail service restored for N.B. couple

PERTH-ANDOVER, N.B. - Canada Post says the Pedersens of Perth-Andover, N.B., will get their mail, even if getting it to them means travelling through a foreign land.

FROM APRIL 16, 2003: Mail must go through, unless it's to the Pedersens

Tightened security at the U.S. border had interrupted the newspaper and mail delivery to the home of Marion and Nickolaj Pedersen's farm.

Their house sits inside Canada, but the road crosses into the United States before it gets there. No customs office sits at the border, so any visitors to the Pedersens' cross the border illegally.

On April 11, a Canada Post truck was stopped by a U.S. border patrol, and warned against making any deliveries. Since then, the Pedersens have been picking up their mail at a friend's home.

On Wednesday, Canada Post spokesperson Avril Vollenhoven said she had been told by U.S. Customs officials that the mail could go through, and the confrontation a week ago had been a misunderstanding.
