You violated privacy and took advantage of an innocent invitation.

I posted a message in area 51, but forgot to post one here.

This fuckwad, john123, is a registered member (eyelfixit) at a tech forum I frequent, hardforum.com. He spammed his site in a programming forum and I called him on it. He didn't like it, and I suppose since tht is in my sig, he thought coming here to be a blowhole would be funny.

It's entirely my fault he came here (although it's a pretty stupid fault). Sorry for any upsetting spam any of you may have recieved.

i dont consider that to be a nasty thing to do. maybe its some rule of forum decorum (hehheh) that i dont know, but i thought that ok. he didnt send me something saying YOU MUST JOIN MY FORUM NOW!!! it simply said i was invited to join because i participate in other discussion forums.

The member list was scavenged, for email addresses.

We all know the difference between a personal invitation and a spampaign (did I just coin that?).

I didn't have a problem with him sending me one. I just deleted it without reading it. What I have a problem with is that you guys were used by our membership list. You don't just walk up to someone's house, copy phone numbers out of the address book and start making phonecalls to sell Amway.

Rude, dammit. Just plain rude. Not to mention that behavior like that discourages people from providing contact information.

His behavior was abusive, plain and simple. I don't care WHAT the frickin Security Council says!

It's pretty much all said and done anywayz. The excitement was short lived. Morgana, Caff, Fiend, maybe one or two others and myself went over to there for no other reason that to call the fucktard on it. We were all edited then deleted. I suspected such when I went in. No sense in pressing the issue. Most of us know that censorship, editing of peoples posts (without permission) and deletion of non-illegal posts won't fly very long. The bsforum is doomed to lie in it's on cesspool.

Wait a minute sir. Yes, if fact we came here, not to start “smack” but in retaliation of something one of your very own admin has done. Eyelfixit, joined our forum as john123, went through our members list, sent out a mass e-mails SPAMMING this forum. We, as well as you, have a no-spam policy. Eyelfixit was TOLD, by one of our admin. DO NOT DO IT. He had already said he was going to do so. A member and admin of this very forum went against our policy and contradicted your own policy in the process. Then, we called the administration here on it, all we got was edited, now deleted, as if you had something to hide from your members.

I fully understand why eyelfixit did what he did. From looking at the small number of members, this is a fairly new forum. I really do wish you guys the best of luck and I hope it exceeds everything you imagined it would be. I hope your members list grows and grows making your board a screaming success. When you make yourself a “home” at a forum, you want to put up billboards on the side of the highway, you want to scream “come see, participate, you’ll have a great time!” I know these things. I feel the same things about my “home” forum. However, there is such a thing as discussion board etiquette and just plain common courtesy. Had eyelfixit (john123) joined our board and put the URL to this forum in his sig or something, made a few posts to get recognition, there wouldn’t have been ANY problems. He deliberately disregarded warnings and any professionalism that he may have had.

Censorship (unless illegal contents is posted), editing post (without permission from the original poster (unless you’re fixing a broken link or something), and deletion of posts just because you don’t like them isn’t a good thing. None at all. You will leave members questioning your integrity, your honesty, and your judgment. That, you do not want. You want to be trusted and by doing the above, you won’t gain any. I’ve been browsing through forums for years now, an admin at one myself, have done the edit, delete stuff, I can assure you, it is no way to attract members. In fact, you wind up running some off in the midst of it all.

How can one’s voice be heard if it’s muffled by your hand?
