"There but for the grace of God go I." Most of the crewmen on that P-3 were cryptologic technicians--guys who listen to other country's radio broadcasts and whatnot. That's the same rating I'm striking for. If I had joined the Navy six months earlier I could have been one of the men on that plane.

My guess is that at this point, China KNOWS it was in the wrong. I mean, it's hard to maintain with a straight face that our big assed lumbering turboprop outmanuevered a MiG 31 or whatever it is they're flying these days. They cannot reasonably expect an apology; therefore, they are merely stalling for time with which to take our plane apart and interrogate our Sailors. If Dubya were to cave in and formally apologize then they would find something else to stall with.

I watched a broadcast today on CNN about the whole incident. In the press conference there were words like "sorry,""sorrow,""regret," and other terms of endearment by our government regarding the death of the Chinese pilot. They went on to describe the American crew as "detainees." They were quite adament that the press not use the term "prisoner."

We can only hope they are being treated better as "detainees" than China treats it's own students.

Thats a pic of the Chinese pilot(Wang Wei) that crashed and died. The pic was taken back in January by and american recon plane.
He is flying extremly close to the american aircraft and in the pic he holds up a sheet of paper with his E-mail address on it.
Wow...he cool.
