Go to Hell.
Dear Posterity,
If you have not become more just, more peaceful, and generally more rational than we are (or were) - why then, the Devil take you.
Having, with all respect, given utterance to this pious wish, I am (or was)
Yours,
Albert Einstein.
From a time capsule placed in 1936.
that about sums that up
unless you think that we ARE more just, peaceful, and rational
well?
are we?

"If you have not become more just, more peaceful, and generally more rational than we are..."
`Take some more tea,' the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly.
`I've had nothing yet,' Alice replied in an offended tone, `so I can't take more.'
`You mean you can't take less,' said the Hatter: `it's very easy to take more than nothing.'
I tend to side with Alice on this one.

You're applying everything to yourself and ignoring history.
Good connection and reference, though. I'm impressed, for what it's worth.

To myself? Not at all. I am not ignoring history in any way... but I wouldn't mistake technological advancement for a progression in applying justice, peace, and rationale.

Maybe I mistook you, then. It seems that you're saying that you can't know what "more" is since you haven't tasted the first drop of tea.
Don't worry. I LIKE to be corrected.

Wait, you're right... just replace Alice with humanity (as it appears to me at least) instead of me specifically.
Although if you like to be corrected when appropriate, then I'm afraid I'll have to exclude you from humanity (or at least a very, very large portion of it)... that would seem indicative of rational thinking.

No we aren't.
"Going to hell in a hand-basket" comes to mind. :(

Albert was an interesting guy, with interesting ideas. But like most "experts" he somehow got the idea that expertise in one field qualified him as expert in various others. He was not.
That little note clearly demonstrates he did not understand the basic nature of humanity, or the reality of history.

What is the basic nature of humanity????????????
I really can't speak for anyone but myself. I am a selfish and FAR from peaceful, and generally less than rational. My emoitions rule me and have since the time I was born. It will not be any different anytime soon. We have learned however to hide it better with explanations of "ID" and other stuff. Thanks Freud. Not that I regularly body check the boy who leers at me, but the wish to will not ever go away, feel free to correct me as well.

Tanks MAE an honest answer to a simple question.
Simple because there is no one answer. There are as many answers as ther are people.
The simplist answer being SELF.

To quote another dead knucklehead, "Nasty, brutish, and short." Humanity, though throughout history has proven can be effected by individuals, but is delegated by the mob- by emotions not intellect, by feelings not rationality, by 2 wrongs somehow making a right, and the great brain teaser of all, luck.
Governments are needed to prevent chaos and death, yet chaos and death are what is needed for us to evolve. Go figure.
