or is it just the hole in your head (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A24144-2003Jan7.html)

I'll just clip the first paragraph in here as its my focal point (feel free to review the rest of the story at your leisure...there's plenty of "stuff" in there to discuss but it all pivots on this opening idea.)

"Two leading House of Representatives Democrats called on Tuesday for bringing back the military draft, saying political leaders would be more wary of sending troops to Iraq if their children were going to help do the fighting."

who exactly are we sending to war now?
an army of clones?

*MAC puts on his fucktard hat...everything to follow will be complete and utter shite*
you know....if we lined our kids up in the road all the drunk drivers would think twice before getting in their cars

and another thing

considering the slow economy what we REALLY need to do is remove a couple million healthy young americans from the market place and give them gov't jobs

and of course

we all know that there are too many minorities in the army now (since its a volunteer system) which makes our social programs deceptively lower than the actual needs of the ppl who need gov't assistance

plus the fact that

our federally elected officials will have kids in the services too.....just look at the service record of vietnam era children of successful politicians and well-to-do beurocrats (such as al gore and bill clinton and george w bush)

*MAC looks around for some republican to interupt him so he canyell "CAN I FINSIH? CAN I FINISH?"*

yeah, but the point was made.

Would you be so ready and willing to send people to war if they werent strangers? If you knew and loved them? Is the war against Iraq necessary?

They didnt expect the draft to be reinstated, we dont need it. We have a large volunteer army and a large voluntary reserve.

raise your hand if you know someone in active duty or reserves.

everyone here knows squee so we won't count him
I know one marine. When he was 14 I patched his arm up when he cut it with an ax. He knew me before I had a child.

College friend left school and joined the airforce. He's an AWACS tech now.

"Two leading House of Representatives Democrats called on Tuesday for bringing back the military draft, saying political leaders would be more wary of sending troops to Iraq if their children were going to help do the fighting."

The last time in history when the U.S. implemented the draft, children of "political leaders" some how seemed to avoid being drafted or wound up in non-combat duty assignments after joining the military.

Why would it be any different this time around?

One of the Daves is a Marine LAAD reservist. He already has instructions for if the call comes. 72 hours to get stuff right, then get gone to train and deploy. If you do know any reservists, offer to help out with their affairs while they are deployed. The other Dave and I will ensure that fightin Dave will come home to a house with operational electric and water, and his stuff kept safe.
