(It's Veteran's Day, in case you didn't know.)
to those who have gone before and paid the ultimate price. thank you.
to those who too often get forgotten, simply because they have survived.
thank you.

Thanks dad.
And all your friends whether you knew them or not.
my father is the only man on his whole street in St Louis flying his flag :(
long, long ago a country we really didn't like offered us help when we wanted to liberate ourselves
around the globe, we owe it to those who also yearn to be free and are willing to pay the ultimate price to achieve it
here at home, we owe it to ourselves to maintain that liberty so that we each have our opportunity to be free
I hope we, as the parents and grandparents of the future veterans, are passing that idea along.

Dad.
My dad was drafted for vietnam, night before he shipped off to
bootcamp, he was in an auto accident, and was thrown 30 feet
out of the car into a barbed wire fence.
He never made it to the bus stop, let along nam.
He spent the majority of the war in a coma, and nearly died.
When he finally came out of that coma, and made a full recovery,
he was exposed to the harsh reality that was, the death of most
of his friends in a foreign country. The small town of townsend
montana lost its fair share of soldiers, and I thank god every day
that my dad wasnt among them.
I will not, and he will not, forget the bravery, the pain, and the loss.
My flag was flying.

To the most important veteran in my life:
I wish you could hug your grandchildren. Pictures may be worth a thousand words but a life can only be experienced.
Thank you, Daddy, for seeing good in the people you were sent to fight. Your newly-born great-grandchild is only one of many whom owe their lives to you.
Rest peacefully. You did good.
