I was just reading a magazine i get monthly in the mail. There was an article about whether or not prison inmates should be allowed to make pen-pals through the internet. The site (http://prisonpenpals.org) allows prisoners, for a fee of 19.95 to set up an account a build their own page telling prospective pals about themselves.
Now my question is, do people that are being punished for their crimes have the right to use the internet as a source of entertainment, and a way to find dates?

My point of view on this is, they commited a crime. They are being punished for a reason.
I do believe that they should have activities during the day, but the activities should involve them working like the rest of us.
They shouldn't have access to any luxeries besides maybe a public T.V.
Internet is out of the question, simpley because it's an outlet into the public where they can interact with the very people they were sepperated from in the first place.

The US "Correctional" System is so fucked up. Why these prisoners have the internet, I have no idea.
They should all be in cells 8x8 feet.
Damn ACLU, making these prisoners seem like victims.

They are in prison for a reason. No TV, no Internet. They should not be allowed conjugal (sp???) (fuck visits) visits, they should be fed gruel and gravy, and be made to do physical labour all day (dig hole, fill it in, and start again, that way they are not taking work away from the unemployed). These days, prisons are way too soft, some crims WANT to be there... they get cable tv, free education, get to hang out with their mates, and have their cooking and washing done for them... hell, that is a better lifestyle than what I lead... bah.
If we are not going to shoot the bastards then we can at least make their lives miserable.

i also should add that these people who send the prioners letters are of course sending their adresses (or PO boxes) to these people!! so what if you are a letter writer and you decide after talking to this criminal maybe its not such a good idea anymore. The prisoner could VERY WELL LIKELY search for you after his relase. A lot of these prisoners are due to get out VERY SOON!! this whole thing is creepy.
let me ALSO add that they DO NOT have internet access. They are paying middlemen to host the websites for them. They send 19.95 to these middle men and they build a site containing the information that the prisoner gives. It is illegal in America to give a prisoner Web access. Muffy I also think they should be kept in their rooms all day, none of this extracurricular shit! A lot of prisons have vable, new gyms, and lots have new computers (w/o internet). How the fuck is this fair when i know my high school doesnt have new gym equipment or new computers.
god dammit tis to early for m e to be raning and raving like this...i need to lay off the caffiene
(pleas excuse any spelling erros as in its too fucking early for me to have my contacts in and i cants ee a damn thing) thank you

Well, you got to be a stupid bitch to send them your address... Does anyone remember that weird bitch that has dated two of the biggest serial killers known... ?
She must be one hell of a 'lady'...

I...
Nope. Sorry. I'll not post the thought. Someone might get hurt.
No one asked where prisoners get $19.95 a month. Perhaps they're working in the prison and being payed.
That means..........I'm paying for them to have the internet........I can barely pay for my internet.......I'm going to run out and commit a brutal crime.......Then I'll offer to wash dishes in prison........Then I'll be back on THT for free....
See ya in 10-20.

my only problem with the idea of treating prisoners like slime is that eventually they will get out...
and when they get out if they have been isolated and treated like dirt then they are more likely to take out the rage they hold on other people...
im not saying many people get rehabilitated.. but if prison is more like real life... then more WILL be stopped from repeat offences (theoretically speaking of course)

I disagree...
I've known some scummy people in this life, a few who have even been in prison. And for all the tales they have told me, most cons view prison as a joke. It's just somewhere else to be. So based on what I've been privy to, I'd have to say that prison's do need to toughen up on certain things.
I still think it's relative to the crime tho. A car thief should not be rehabbed in auto shop, just like a hacker should not be given more computer training for the sake of getting a "real" job after they get out.
And there is no way that violent offenders should have net acsess. Think about it this way, Chucky Manson getting emails from all the bald headed chicas out there would NOT be a good thing.
