View Full Version : spidey flaw

I found a flaw in the Spider Man movie. I'm sure there are a lot of flaws in the movie but on a more technical note. This is a low tech flaw. When Harry and his Dad, Peter, M.J and Peter's aunt are getting ready to sit down to Thanksgiving dinner, Norman Osborne realizes Peter is Spider Man and he gets up to leave,
he thanks "Mrs. Parker" for the dinner. Her name is Mae Johnson, not Parker.

Just thought I would mention that. It has no social redeeming value, probably why I mentioned it.

(edit note: the scene is 88 minutes and 40 seconds into the movie)

That and why make little Parker out to be a whiz at science then scrap his inventing the web shooter thingies?

God, the list could go on...

<font color="lime">that's not an error. he knows peter parker's last name, and automatically assumed in his haste that hers was the same. very rarely do people introduce people by their first and last names in a casual dinner setting. we can assume that he was introduced to "aunt mae", and when he was leaving he automatically took peter's last name to be hers.

Well, that kept that in the original form. In the movie, they answered that question by making appear it is due to physilogcial changes that occurred after he was bit by the genetically designed spider.

Except that he knew the family for awhile, since Harry was kicked out of boarding school. And he told Peter that he would be a father figure to him, since he lost his uncle. And I do introduce people by their first and last names in any situation. I must be rare.

I watched it. It was one of those "oh yeah" moments.

Correct me.

Mae is Peter's aunt. Her maiden name was "Parker". That makes her the sister of Peter's dad.

Mae married Ben Johnson which makes her "Mrs. Johnson".

Although my wife is right, I'm biased.

For reference, it's 88 minutes and roughly 25 seconds into the film.

Hollywood makes mistakes. Just try to remeber that it's their best effort to bring a beloved character from page to screen.

ben was already dead at that point, might she have reverted to her maiden name?

Stand by. I'm on the verge of retraction.

I can't claim to be a Spiderman expert so some of this lineage is confusing me.

In the final scenes, Peter tells Osbourne that he already has a father: "His name was Ben Parker". That's a reference to his Uncle Ben, I gather.

Ok, who is related to whom and how? Gimme some history.

Should we get Stan Lee involved?

It seems highly unlikely that an old-fashioned-apple-pie-cookin-blue-haired old lady would revert to her maiden name.

Besides the green gobblin went to her house and attacked her, and he Ben Johnson was an electrician for Oscorp (norman osbournes company) before he was fired.
Now you might say that "Surely mr. osbourne was aware of their name and peter's situation of being raised by his aunt and uncle" but you forget that norman osbourne was rarely around his child or his child's friends and truely didn't know much about Harry or his life (this was a key part of the story)

its silly to assume he knew anything more than peter was raised by his aunt and uncle and that peter's name was "parker"

even when he went to peter's old house to hurt his aunt he would have only had to look up peter's old address either through his telephone number or school records.

now for the web shooters...

Stan lee was a producer here. If the web shooter thing was changed from the original its because it could be given credence now. It makes a helluva lot more sense than peter parker being so damned bright that he invented something no on else ever did.
Personally, I buy the natural mutation of the web shooter a lot more. The old web shooter was just WEAK.

duh

Given that Spideyman has always been my favorite charictor (right before Wolverine), and I have little knowledge of the actual comic book (cause I just never read them), I liked it! And there's my uneducated opinion. Thanks.

This is how you don't get laid for a month; contradict your wife:

From http://www.angelfire.com/or2/marvel/spiderman.html

Relations:May Parker(his aunt), Ben Parker(his uncle, deceased), Mary Jane Watson-Parker(his wife), May Parker(his daughter in the Spidergirl comix), Ben Reilly(the original Peter Parker/Spiderman who took on the title of the clone after the Maximum Clonage epidemic)

Woe is me.

So, that makes Ben Peter's father's brother.

Whew! I need a nap.

The movie strayed from the original storyline many different times for whatever reasons.

Another worth mentioning.

Comic book: Radioactive spider

Movie: Genetically engineered spider
