basic chemistry - ashes in water = lye, a basic compound

chlorine in solution = acid

I learned something today - dont pick up a bed today, just cause a year ago i easily could.

Bet you didn't know that nuking a banana (especially the peel) is also a fire hazard. The potasium tends to ignite.

Try slicing a white grape so that just a little skin connects the two halves. Nuke that. The area that connects the halves will spark.

EA pointed me to a site a while back that shows you how to make those AOL CD's worth taking out of the envelope.

A small paper cup upside down with a slit in the bottom makes for a stand for the CD. Nuke it for about 10 seconds and watch the fireworks. Be prepared for the stench of burnt plastic.

As for what I learned today: Einstein compared photons to the atoms in a gas. If you continue with the comparison, gases can become liquids once the atoms are slowed down enough, so it might be possible to create what amounts to liquid light.

Some simulations have been run. It's on its way to lab testing while the think-tanks mull over possible applications.

Today I learned that 3/4 inch PVC pipe is surprisingly flexible, although it won't return to it's original shape (straight) if left bent for more than an hour or so.

Arrggg! Someone hasn't been paying attention.

The song "Love Hurts", performed by Nazareth, was written by the authors of "Rocky Top". The Vol's host the Hurricanes today.

Here's something that doesn't matter much but it's kinda cool: I ran into a guy that looks just like Mancow. In fact, my thoughts were, "hey, that guy looks just like Mancow!", and then I went on about my bidness.

It was him. If I'd known, I would have had him sign my newly shaven head.

A few more things that happen when you get scared...

The adrenaline has been mentioned, but some of the effects of the adrenaline are pretty interesting..

When there's adrenaline (and, I'd assume a few other things) released, it causes your body to shunt the majority of the blood away from your extremeties (hands, feet, arms, legs, etc) - in case you get hurt as a result of whatever situation you are in, your body tries to limit the amount of blood loss.

I didn't know that. heh

I'm sorry I didn't call.. I ended up staying at TRF overnight, and I'm not much for drinking before I have to do a 2 hour drive..

I'll make up for it someday, I promise.

Today I learned:

my vendors new sales girl looks exactly the way she sounds on the phone: pretty gal with too much make & poofy bangs
*theMAC shudders*

To replace the firing pins of a stevens 5100 double barrel 12 ga shotgun you must first remove the two pins holding the sear assemblies and hammers...carefully...little springs...carefully

I can build tiny intricate parts for shotguns that break when you are almost done with your repairs...with alot of patience and filing

I am not the only one who's dreams remind them of what was and what might have been...and gets very sad

Hmm, I hope I'm teaching you something.........prolly not though, you've already got a broad band of gunsmithing experience.

If you take a semi-automatic weapon (pistol, shotgun or rifle) and trim the sear a bit, it'll make it fully auto. But, you have to be careful not to trim too much or it wont stop firing once you pulled the trigger until the magizine is empty. It's a trial an error thing. Trim a little, put gun together...try, trim a little, put gun together...try..........................

Just practice on something old and have a new sear on hand for replacement so you can fix the fucked up firearm you now hold. ;) It's been years since I've done such and if I remember correctly you file the little flat locking catching thingie part of it.

A section of Cosmic Thread with a diameter smaller than an atom and a length of one meter can theoretically weigh as much as the entire Earth.

I say "theoretically" because none have been observed. For now, they exist only in equations.

On top of that, it's theorized that c (as in E = mc^2) might not be constant. If that's the case, travel at light-speed velocities near a cosmic string would decrease time-dilation effects. In other words, the slowing of time at near-light velocities would not be as pronounced.

That means that if you travel interstellar distances by way of a cosmic string (thread), the people you leave behind would age months instead of centuries.

For once, I hope Einstein was wrong.

Koliedrus
03-12-2003, 03:31 PM
That and this:

If you set course for a black hole, it will evaporate before you reach it and you'll witness the end of the universe.

During your plunge to the edge of Time, you'll watch events happen faster than you can comprehend.

I can't imagine past that. Maybe tomorrow. This makes my skull hurt.

Now really, how does something exist in an equation, if we don't really know it's there? I mean, how do we prove these equations, if we....it's just not right!

Consider sub-atomic particles. The Top quark has been theorized to exist for years but has only recently been observed. It takes a lot of energy to break it loose from an atom. Technology had to increase before that could happen.

First comes the theory, then the proof. If you plug the Standard Model into a supercomputer and simulate the birth of the Universe, Cosmic Strings/Threads manifest themselves as a result.

Kinda like that.

As another example, you, Venus, are a theoretical entity to those whom haven't physically met you. Your words exist here in the form of equations that require advanced technology for processing, interpretation and representation. I'm reasonably sure that you exist but I have no direct physical evidence.

I cannot prove "You" but I believe the theory.

I learned this weekend that it truly upsets men in the military to know that so many people don't support the government and the troups over in Iraq.
I learned this weekend that it upsets them even more to know that some people born and raised in America won't even stand and salute the flag. I believe the exact line was "I didn't spend 8 years dedicated to serving and protecting this country so people could disrespect the flag!" *frustrated growl and cigarette lighting*
