View Full Version : Creativity
What defines a good creative ability in your opinion?
I was also wondering if you think using other peoples ideas, mixing them around with yours & other peoples ideas, could create a good creative piece of work?
That last question was kind of hard to ask, I'll re-ask it laster. Don't forget about the first one though. Using examples might help out at first.
why does water flow out of the ground in some places and not others?
well its cracks in certain kinds of rock and layers of earth
collections of water in particular layers and formations that resust its flow
etc
I have no clue what is a creative ability, nor exactly how much is conscious use of other ppls ideas and how much of it is pure inspiration
it just happens, if you could just think of it, it wouldn't be creative would it?
i hate using this word but,
what do you think makes a good artist?
just my opinion again,
but the ppl (Ihave actually met) I consider the most artistic did what they wanted and let someone else sell it
I simply cannot grasp how you can be told to draw/paint/sculpt/perform/etc at such and such time and do it...for money...and call it art
using your ability to draw thousands of mickey mouse cells isn't art (thou it requires alot of skill and talent)
playing back up band for billy joel also requires skill and talent but its not the same as composing and performing your own music.
if you have the talent you can discover it and imporve it with practice.
if you have the desire to do it every day that should be enough to keep you going
but that other thing that drives ppl to create new things never before seen in the universe
I have no clue what to call that

Is whatever you think it is.
Can be found in almost anything.
Is a perception.
Artist...

They are everywhere and inside everyone of us.

<font color="lime">what makes a good artist... my definition would be someone who looks at life and sees a representation of emotion, and has the ability to translate that emotion of truth to a medium.
creativity is the same thing- people that are creative can see the truth in things, and can draw it out in some form or another. creativity is simply the ability to create something that wasn't there before, at least for them. whether it be a piece of art, an independant thought, an answer to a problem...it doesn't really matter.
if you could elaborate further i can be more specific.

I recently visited a small gallery where an artist was selling her works. They were some beautiful southwestern designs with lost of color and well, just plain beautiful. One of the gentlemen that works at the gallery noticed me looking at an oil painting that caught my eye. He approached and we discussed the artist and the painting. I told him I thought it was beautiful and asked him how much the artist was asking. He asked me what I thought it was worth. I told him 700 bucks. He laughed at me and told me at was 12,000 dollars. I asked him if that was what it was worth or if that was what she was asking. He didn't understand the question.
I guess I don't place the same (monetary) value on art that some people do.
