Founded in 1861 in Castle Rock, Colorado, by Arthur Kensington, the Kensington Arms Company has been a major force in the weapons industry since day one. Arthur's decision to incorporate the company was prompted by Colt's refusal of his first weapon, the K1 Repeater. This proved to be a rather large mistake on the part of Colt, at the time one of the largest weapons manufacturers in the world, as it caused the League of North American States to turn to Kensington with the first arms contract for its newly formed Marine Corps (1862). Even though the contract was only for 1,500 weapons, there was fierce competition for it. Arthur rose far above the pack with his demonstration of the tube magazine and pump-action Repeater, which was far and away the most impressive of the firearms reviewed by the LNAS Defense Minister.
In 1884, Kensington Arms once again won the prized Marine Contract, as it was being called, with the introduction of the KA-500B, the first rifle on Earth to feature a box magazine. The Marines have been coming to KA ever since. In 1898, it was the KA-98MG, the first non-rotary rapid firing weapon the Corps ever received. Again in 1902, for the 1056M handgun, which has been a standby of military forces worldwide ever since.
KA has been famous for its assault rifles since 1937, when the KA-AR1 was introduced. The AR series has seen exemplary service with the League Armed Forces, most notably the KA-AR21, which performed beautifully in the Pacific War (1957-'61) when the Austral-Japanese Empire invaded the Philippines. Kensington was on the scene when the Confederate States of America declared war on the League in 1981, with the AR24, and again in 1994, with the AR27 (the current model) when hostilities ended between the LNAS and the Confederacy. The KA-AR27 has most recently been employed in the ongoing border skirmishes between the League and the Golden Empire (2003-present).
Kensington was on hand in the Great European War (1940-1947), when LNAS Prime Minister Heinlein opted to sell 1.2 million AR3's to the CMD (Constitutionell-Monarchie Deutschland) in '41. Parliament approved the sale, and Germany exercised their option and purchased 3 million more units in 1942. The Hawaiian Republic Navy is currently one of KA's clients, as is the Northern Federation and the EUEC (Estados Unidos de Emerica Centrale). The respective armed forces of the Lakota-Sioux Nation, Eire, and South Africa have orders pending as of April 2006.
The company expanded into edged weapons in 1897, originally just to supply bayonets for the already deadly 500B, and afterwards to provide fighting knives for the Marines, and quality hunting knives. Since 1972, Kensington has been producing a line of pocket-sized multi-use tools for both military and civilian applications. In 1989, the Kensington Tool & Knife Company went public, taking the entire edged weapons division with it to a separate manufacturing facility in Colorado Springs. KTKC has been thriving in the new environment, and will be releasing it's own stock onto the market next June (2007).
The Kensington Arms Company of Castle Rock, Colorado has been a driving force in global small arms development since the 1860's and will likely continue to be well into the 22nd century.
And here's the current showcase of military arms available through the company:
