Heh...I don't see the appeal of that movie.
It was like sitting in a goddamn waiting room with the occasional spark of interest as someone ahead of ya got called up.
Drove me bonkers how drawn out that flick was.
DIE LOTR, DIIIIEEEEE!

Never seen it. It's not that I wouldn't like to, just haven't made any effort to rent it or anything. I'll see it in time I suppose.

I bought the DVD on Tuesday. The movie rocks all form of goat ass. The best part of the movie was when Arwen takes off her dress. Yowza!
I know 2 people that have bought it already, they must be way cool!

Don't miss my point. It's not about the movie itself or anyone's particular tastes.
I saw a pirated version of a movie, liked it and bought the DVD. The film industry got my money because of a pirated version. I probably wouldn't have even taken the time to see it in the first place if it hadn't been handed to me.
Main reason for buying it... my kids (again). When they clap, say "whoah, look at that" or sit awestruck as a story unfolds, I know I have a winner even if they play over and over until I go nuts ;)
Hmm. Maybe its time to start looking into that addition to the house. I'd have to take out a loan but my sanity might be saved.
I'd be pumping money into the economy by hiring a construction firm.
Therefore: pirated movies help the economy.
It may be a twisted road but those are the most fun to drive :D

Exactly like me ;)
Did any of you know J.R.R. Tolkien invented 'fantasy'?

He may have popularized the genre but "fantasy" is as old as the most ancient campfire.
Yea, I was just too lazy to explain. He created elves, dwarves(the fantasy version), orcs(goblins, trolls) and the genre/fictional world that revolves around them.....? *shrugs*
Just keep that fact in your head, and get back to me.

Ah. The elves.
Ho Ho Ho!
Not even Santa can claim to own them. Their history is older than anything written on screen or papyrus.
You think you might be able to pick them out of a croud because of their features.
Head-hugging ears with pointed tips, brows that furrow in eternal thought, eyes that pierce when met, reflexes that snap from calm to action in the blink of a mortal eye.
Nah. Rubbish.
Humans, however. Them's some scary sonsofbitches.
Not even Santa can claim to own them. Their history is older than anything written on screen or papyrus.
So because of J.R.R. Tolkien Santa has elves. Or do you mean someone else made up elves? or "who knows?"
I think it was J.R.R. Tolkien. And how come you picked elves, so did juliana when I todl her. What's with you people and elves?! Dwarves are funnier.
Yea and humans, it's all their fault. Or is it the elves. I could recall the dude having a sword. Why not just kill the human and huck the damn thing in the pit himself? Or was the human too powerful?
What am I talking about? Myth or history?

pfft!!!
Fantasy has been around ever since the idea of god was in a man's head.
;) :D
ALRIGHT ALRIGHT, sorry for the ambiguous, or vague, statement?

I'd have to say I'm with ya there, Kol. I buy more CD's now than I ever did before LimeWire or Napster or any of the sharing programs. Maybe you and I are the exception to the rule.

I'm an exception too.
I look at my cd collection, and see hundreds of bands I never would have gotten into if it weren't for file-sharing programs.
They've definately helped bands more than they've hurt them.
The bands that care more about their music than money, anyway.

Ok, I finally saw "The fellowshit of.........." and no, that wasn't typo. A few good points: 1) The special effects were very nicely done. 2) The 5.1 digital souround encoding was kick ass coming through my Bose. A few bad points: 1) It just drug on and on and on and on and on and on...... 2) Two and half hours and they still couldn't end the freakin movie. Now if you're gonna make a movie that will leave itself open for another, then do it in an hour and fifty minutes like everyone else.
All in all I thought the movie was very well done but I will not be watching the fallow ups. Bleh.

try reading the books, billy. they were remarkably faithful to the story, especially by the standards of the movie business. and, for fuck's sake, the lord of the rings is only one book, broken up for ease of sales by the publisher.
slh = correct
its an epic trilogy, its huge fucking story about alot of ppl and dealing with the entire sequence of events at a single moment in time that ended one world and began another.
not some ppls cup of Tea but tough titty
I enjoy the story though perhaps not the style.
what irks me is they should have done the hobbit first.
ppl who never read it are wondering what all these hobbits and elves and orks and things are and whats up with the ring and who's golum...etc etc
all the characters necessary to set up the story for the other three books came from the hobbit
the only thing that truely pissed me off about the books was how many characters you meet by the end of the tale. I must admit the movie makes it easier as you now have a nice conscious face to put with the name.

I've enjoyed reading the trilogy so much that I feel guilty before seeing the conclusion on film.
This afternoon, I told my daughter that I know what happens.
"Did you read it?!"
"Yes. Do you want to hear one of the scarey parts?"
"Uuuuuuu..... Yeah...."
She brought her knees to her chest while I told her about Shelob, Sting and the struggles of Frodo and Sam.
That was on the trip home from school. I was reading while I waited in line to pick her up.
"You read that from here?!", she said, pointing to the book.
"Yeah. I went there while I was waiting for you."
"I can't wait! When can I read like you?!"
"It takes time but you've already started. Pick a page."
"Ok. 'When Sam awoke, he found that he was lying on some soft bed, but over him.... ' What's this word?"
"swayed."
"...swayed wide... bb... Dad, this is too hard."
"Lemme see... 'beechen boughs, and through their young leaves sunlight glimmered, green and gold. All the air was full of sweet mingled scent.' "
"When can I read like that?"
"Soon, baby. The Tooth Fairy will help."
And as each baby tooth falls, so shall time be marked.

The interest she has for wanting to “see” the movie through text is priceless.
