So... I went out with some friends, and got rather sloshed... I get really horny when trashed (just out of curiosity, how many others find their sex drive sky rocketing after a few drinks?) so I phoned ***** up and said that even though he couldn't do dinner, I didn't see why that had to rule out other possibilities... He was all for the idea (of course)... So, I got what I wanted, I guess... but I ask myself, where is the damn romance these days?
Apparently, so my friends from the states tell me, NZ just sucks for it. No one ever asks anyone out on dates, you meet someone at the pub, take them home, and see how you feel about shagging them twice... that is the beginning of a standard kiwi relationship.
So I wonder, is it like a cultural thing? The anthropology of romance...
How does it work where you guys live? Do dates really happen like they do on TV?

(Oh, I'm not kidding about NZ and dating either, I have been on ONE date in my entire life that came BEFORE the sex, and that was with a pom! Me and ***** have known eachother for a while, but just used to run in to eachother at parties/bars, no dating or anything, that came AFTER the sex... I think this is fucking odd)

I personally have only had sex on the first date a couple times. Dating is better than sex anyway. Sex is nice but the sexual tension of dating can be good too. Have you ever had a kiss that felt like an orgasm? It takes that anticipation and appreciation of your partner for that. When having sex kissing just gets in the way.

I realise it must make me sound like a slut to say that I sleep with people before I date them http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/eek.gif, but the point of this thread was not really whether or not there is something wrong with my sexual practices, but whether relationship 'protocol' is defined contextually... like, my behaviour is somwhat normal for a Kiwi, but I would imagine it would be slutty for an american...

I dated someone for 4 years and there was 8 months of courting before I decided to be with him exclusively so there was a lot of romance.

Shit. Can't you people just ask a person out? All it requires is just getting to know someone for a while. Then ask them out. Shit, like thats so hard. Damm it people. Romance you can find when your significant other is crying his/her eyes out, and then you tell them you love them and it will be ok and give them a hug and things get better. For fucks sake. What have people forgotten. Romance and then sex. Its so much better, and it lasts so much longer. You just need to try (or wait for it to fall in your arms, which seems to happen quite commonly with me for some unknown reason.)
