no baseball payroll prob this week (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A60907-2002Jul12.html)
---------------------
I won't bother with the body of the article.
We all know the story.
1 in 100 gets to college
1 in 1000 gets to the minors
1 in 1000 of those get sreal major league time
and alot of them still make base pay.
not bad by any stretch, but not like the superstars we read about.

but a few are lucky enough to make a fortune in a GAME because they are talented enough and dedicate denough to it.
Then someone tempts them with more money because they are the best of the best...and they take it.....
Once again the greed of a few is destroying the entire sport and the corruption of cross over incomes (adds and such) is degrading the morale.

They can't fill the stadiums because the game has NO INTEGRITY.
How do I know this?
I don't even watch sports....
I know it because I listen to the fans who do watch it.
And they feel about sports the same way we feel about gov't.
Its a giant monster that is consuming mor emoeny than it needs and not operating properly...but what can we do they don't listen to us.....they listen to $$$$$$$$$$

Average annual salary of a major league baseball player in America: Approx. 2 million dollars

Average annual salary of a working American: Approx. 31 thousand dollars

And they have the audacity to expect the fans to be sympathetic to their cause? It took a drug enhanced Mark McGwire to revive interest in the game after their last strike. What's next if they strike again? Nude playmate jello wrestling in center field?

Baseball as a spectator sport is dying. The history books will record that is was killed by primadonna professional athlete greed.

Baseball isnt/wasnt entertaining to watch in the first place.

Add in the fact that everyone is crying about their ridiculously huge
(but apparently not huge enough) salary, and what you come up
with is, a rich kid with a skinned knee, and we all know how fun
those kids are.

I wanna kick 'em in the teeth.

I like baseball.

Players pursuing highest possible wages, even to the initial detriment of the game, is capitalism in action; as interest declines, so will the wages. If interest doesn't decline, then they earn it; if the players don't get it, the owners will.

You are correct smug, and I am here to say that these types of activities make me NOT willing to back the game.
Infact they make me willing to ask its fans why they support this type of mentality and system.
That is freedom.

Offering something better is capitalism.
Anyone up for a THT baseball league?

I'd totally stop watching if it weren't for their extreme sexiness.
