By posting the pic of that music ad, it seems to me that you are promoting the more negative aspect often associated with the "rebel" flag than what Stan seems to identify it with. You either don't like what you think it stands for or what they say it stands for.

So, do you fight it or is not following it enough?

I personally don't care what flag you fly.
Until I have to support somethign you also support. This is where I will be judged by your beliefs.
No body's asking you to follow their flag.
Personally I think its your choice how you act towards someone because of what appears to be a difference. Wouldn't want to be associated with some one who looked different, huh? Or acted different? Or maybe believed different? Or flew a different flag (whether they understood it or not.)

Let's take the example of the swastika.

It has been used by American Indians, Hindus, Buddhists, Vikings, Greeks, Romans, Celts, Anglo-Saxons, Mayans, Aztecs, Persians, Christians, and neolithic tribes. There are even Jewish swastikas found in ancient synagogues side-by-side with the star of David.

Unfortunately mainly due to mad painter it has gotten a bad name.

So has the confederate flag, internationally it has been now associated with fascism.

Open a thread here and more often that not there are four of those flags flying.

And that's the impression people get when they come here, that we are a bunch of right wing flag wavers.

I guess I'll have to re-instate the anarchy flag in my sig and go around posting after every fed flag gets posted to even things up.

It's true you can't choose where you are born. But at a certain point you can change who you follow, because a flag represents your country, and what your country believes in, or at least what the leaders of the country believe in. So if you don't like what the flag stands for, leave the country and revoke your citizenship.

Many years ago I was in a tube station in London explaining to an American couple how to get out of the place.

I heard a noise behind me and there's this bunch of skinheads coming down the elevator.

My explaination speeds up, 'er.....go back to the platform and follow the exit signs'.

I turn round again and the whole fucking elevator's full of the shit heads. They're yelling Oi punk and the likes and the front ones are starting to run.

By the grace of god I happened to have a skateboard with me so.....'er I must be off'.....and I wiz away down a side tunnel.

If it hadn't been for that skateboard I would have been thrown under a train for sure.

My point, they were carrying Union Jacks. Nationalism sucks.

I think I'll sum that thought up by saying Don't let national pride blind you.
Nothing is good in excess. Pride is no exception.
However I have noticed that shows of "pride" almost always involve people with nothing better to do.
On the flip side people who are incredibly busy act like they don't care one way or the other.
So... the poor, unemployed, uneducated and the trust babys of the elite are prone to acting foolishly in excess.
the middle class/ first gen upperclass, hard working, self scrificing often ignore everything from the family up.

You were there when I asked him chat, very politely, if he would mind

That had me flumoxed, sheer brilliance.

I don't mind that he flew the flag, I object that he wants to continue to fly it with each and every post. The result is that I have an ongoing fight with him whenever he posts. This is not healthy. I would rather lay back and talk cars or something with him, take every thread on it's merits and not hold personal grudges.

He is bringing a political item into each and every thread he posts in.

I apologize for being the dissenting opinion here but this place would be pretty dull without one.
As a Libertarian I believe my rights extend to the tip of the other guy's nose. I have a right to think act and do as I please as long as I don't prevent you from doing the same.
I can think that red heads are the most beautiful women and that women with crew cuts look like lesbians as long as I don't deliberately defame someone for having short hair or treat them differently.
Southerners have every right to love the union jack and to dislike others....as long as they don't deprive any one of their rights to their health, liberty or welfare.
I was raised in a bigoted household. My grandparents in general disliked any one that wasn't Lilly white, except American Indians. Somehow they got left out. Before I could form my own opinion I was told Mexicans were stupid and lazy. I had never laid eyes on a "Negro" while I lived in the state of my birth.
I got over those opinions when I met people face to face. I do not consider myself to be racist.
I am French by nationality, probably the most universally disdained race on earth. It does not pit myself against the world when I hear people denigrate the French. I assume they don't include myself or any individual but an overall perception of the culture in general. Such generalizations are laughable and without merit. How can you hurt me by generalizing?
