KNIVES, TANKS, WHALES — AIRPORT
SCREENERS NOW FAILING TO CATCH ANYTHING
Federal Investigators, Meanwhile, Accused of Enjoying Work a Little Too Much

Washington, D.C. (SatireWire.com) — In a troubling sign that investigators may be getting bored with their success smuggling guns and knives onto airplanes, the U.S. Department of Transportation today disclosed that its agents have recently cleared airport security checkpoints with an M1 tank, a beluga whale, and a fully active South American volcano.

An undercover DOT investigator attempts to sneak a beluga whale past security at Kennedy Airport.
DOT investigators also boasted that they have repeatedly slipped past screeners with a six-burner Viking stove, the Field Museum of Natural History, and actor Sidney Poitier, whom they had gagged and, for some reason, painted bright blue.

The revelations were disturbing for DOT inspector general Kenneth Mead, who praised his employees for their previous work in uncovering security lapses, but suggested investigators had perhaps lost sight of their original mission. At a staff meeting yesterday, Mead urged agents to "give it a rest," and, at some point, return the Washington Monument.

"Oh yeah, that was a good one," said Mitch Kerling, one of hundreds of DOT field personnel assigned to test security. "Twelve out of 13 airports. Zoom. Right through. Only got caught at LAX because this one screener thought it was a knife."

Like Kerling, other DOT agents said they weren't ready to comply with Mead's cease-and-desist order, arguing that more serious lapses have yet to be discovered. But Argenbright Security CEO David Beaton, who runs the nation's largest airport screening company, said he failed to see how sneaking the Central Park merry-go-round past security was productive.

Replied DOT field analyst Diane Corliss: "So?"

In defending his staff, Beaton insisted employees weren't trained to spot geologic catastrophes or Sidney Poitier, although he conceded a routine hand check should have detected R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck, whom agents had set on fire and placed in a golf bag. However, Beaton claimed investigators have also overlooked many security successes. In particular, he praised one employee for recently confiscating a pair of scissors from a man attempting to board a flight for Phoenix.

The man, actually an undercover DOT investigator, noted in his report that the scissors were taken, but added that he was then allowed to board the plane while driving a mobile rocket launcher.

"Security thought that was a sweater," Beaton explained.

Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration, meanwhile, said safety should improve by November, when federally-employed screeners are slated to be in place at all 429 commercial airports in the United States. DOT investigators, however, said they were up for the challenge, and had already mounted the remains of 16th Century French theologian John Calvin to a live cow.

Americans notoriously have little attention spans. Sooner more than later, the security people will be back to wondering what's on T.V. instead of watching what's going through the airport.

We're Americans. We are dumb.

I have to agree. Seeing as I fly a lot I know whats going down in airport security.

After Sept 11th this were tight. After some time went on, things weren't so tight anymore.... much more relax, than after the shoe thing, things were tight again Once the guy didn't even check my id and ticket, just let me through the gate to the plane.....

I made the mistake of trying to fly the weekend after 9/11 and what a mistake it was. One airline cancled all flights to Chicago Midway because someone was found with two different photo IDs. Got a refund to my credit card wich would take a dat or two, used all the cash I had to go over to American Airlines and get a flight from DFW to Chicago O'Hare. Flight left about 1PM (I had been there since 4:30AM) and had a layover in Tulsa, OK, no problem. Got on plane to Tulsa, got out of plane at Tusla and was gretted by a giant sign that said all flights to Chicago had been cancled 3 hours ago (it was only an hour and a half flight i think). Everyone on my place with the exception of one person who was going to LA were on their way to Chicago. I tried to get BACK to DFW and they told me NO. I had to stay there overnight and catch a flight in the AM. The people behind me were allowed to fly back to Dallas and the plane was leaving in 5 min. I finally explained that I had NO $$$ and bitched enough so that they let me fly back to Dallas and even put me on the 8:30 PM flight from Dallas straight to Chicago. FINALLY got back to Dallas and the terminal next to the one I was in had a bomb threat so it was evacuated along with us. Got back inside around 8PM or so and found out that the pilot that was to fly our plane did not show up for work (as many of them did, apparently scared). They were going to fly one in from Chicago O' Hare, which just had another bomb threat so it was delayed. We finally boarded the plane about 11:30 as soon as we found out the pilot had landed, got on board and they started the head count of the passengers. We had 1 person extra, they did not like this. Law enforcement along with the ATF stormed the plane and checked photo IDs and ticket stubs. It turns out that some lil 85 year old women just walked on the plane and never turned her ticket in. The pilot from Chicago that was going to fly our plane got sick. Luckily we had another pilot on the place who was going home and he offered to fly the plane. Finally left DFW about 1:30 and got to Chicago at 3:30AM. I was SUPPOSED to be there at 8AM on Friday and got there about 3:30AM on a Saturday. The things I went through just to go see my girlfriend.

No, the problem is that even after 9/11 and all the attempts that were made, we're still highering the dumber americans for airport security, they just now hold a title that states the same non-high school grad, non GED holding dumbfuck is government personnel. --actually, that makes sense.
