This (http://www.annistonstar.com/lifestyle/2002/as-family-0428-0-2d25v4348.htm) is quite an interesting article about manners, politeness, common courtesy and the like.
Is there a problem today? Hell, we meet rude people all the time. At times, we are the rude people. Some of us are very polite, courteous, and well mannered.
Just read the damn article and tell me what you think!
see wasn't that rude. ;)

I don't know about the rest of the world, but people are for the most part polite and civil to each other where I live. Some are actually genuinely friendly.
Rudeness is the exception, not the rule. At least where I live.

Same here, for as much as I complain about people. What the article said is true...that we're more likely to remember the rude people than the nice ones.
Doesn't mean that there is more rudeness...just that we remember it more.

And you aren't an atheist living in the bible belt
In all fairness, people are for the most part polite and civil 'round these parts ;). Just as long as they don't ask what I believe or see the current book that I am reading :)

I remember the first time I went to San Diego. Both my upbringing and the fact that I work retail forces me to say "hello" to almost everyone I come in contact with. Around Zion, that's pretty much the norm and people are very civil to strangers. I remember the glares and looks of surprise from the people of San Diego when they were met with a "hi" or "hello." Wierd.
I was also raised using "Mr. and Mrs." Adults were never to be called by their first names. I still find myself, at 31, calling people Mr. and Mrs. and most people like the courtesy.
I was taught to hold the door open for all people; not just ladies. I still do that.
I was taught to use proper etiquette when eating and can handle a fork, knife and spoon without looking like a heathen.
I was taught to respect my elders. Speak to them when spoken to and never talk disrespectfully or out of turn with them.
I think good manners are all "hands on" training from your parents. Some things the Teletubbies can't teach your kids.
