So this weekend my family was playing the most recent edition of Trivia Pursuit. I found out from one of the questions that 14 percent of American citizens cannot locate the United States on a world map.

14!!!!!!!!111111

/me hangs my head in shame and pretends to be Canadian

What's up with that, eh?

***edited because I am a vB code moron

It's a sad sign of the times. An eight grader 120 years ago was better educated than today's crop of high school graduates. Myself, included.

Another sad condemnation of the worlds greatest country.

How can something be so desired, and yet so corrupt at the same time?

"Oh, Homer, it was awful! It took the kids 40 minutes to locate Canada on the map!"

"Yeah, it's easy to miss, all tucked away down there..."

How can they not locate America on the map - it's kind of hard to miss....

Probably the same 14% that think NZ is "that small Island at the bottom of Australia" (Which would be Tasmania - but of course you all knew that- Didn't you!!!!?)

People are just dumb. Don't ever watch the game show "Street Smarts." It's a take-off of Leno's 'Jay Walking."

I watched a guy the other night on Weakest Link that thought that carrots were the main ingredient in tater-tots.

That guy should be put out of my misery.

Private Eye magazine has a little spot called 'dumb Britain' where they recount stupid answers from quiz shows, also a 'dumb America' sometimes.

The funniest dumb answer was supposed to be have been edited out of Family Fortunes, where contestants have to match the answers given by the crowd. The question was 'What is the most dangerous race in the world?' and the contestant answered 'The arabs'.

I saw an episode of the Weakest Link USA where she asked 'What hereditary disease was Queen Victoria a carrier of' and the guy guessed 'Syphilis', which was hilarious. He got pretty embarassed about it afterwards though.

The guy who got the worst ever score on Mastermind was a school teacher.

Saw an interview with him on the telly.

After the show was televised he would be standing in front of his class asking one of his students a question, more often than not the reply would be "pass".

"What we have here is...failure to communicate"

What do you think the answer would be if I asked the following question

"who watches more game shows..americans on this board or europeans on this board"

we have the birth of a stereotype right in front of us.....
:D

You know...people who believe stats like that are fucking retarded...sorry, but unless you show me some emperical data and specify where this info is coming from, its all bullshit...by the way, would that 14% happen to be the ones that are still in diapers or havent had a history lesson?? 'American Citizens' is pretty vague...oh, and Im sure Trivial Persuit really gives a fuck what sort of shit they put on those cards, as long as they sell...

Just like they tell you Bush's approval rating is 80% or something...the stats are there to forge opinion by preying on peoples need to belong or at least to go with the flow of their social group, the stats do not reflect opinion or fact...

The only sort of stats that can be believed are ones that show things like murder rates and energy consumption...real, actual, measurable quantities...not this fucking abstraction crap they try to pass as tangible truth...its a bunch of shit and you fags buy it...I fucking piss in yer mouth you scatty crusthumps...

3MTA3, that's the first thing I recall you saying that I agree with 100%.

Fine example of political juggling of data:

I recall being in school and hearing about how quickly the rain forest was disappearing.
It should damn near be all gone now.....

This thread reminds me of an inflatable globe I got my freshman year of college. It was the funniest thing in the world. If I remember correctly, it had Indonesia in the Arctic Circle. And that's just the beginning.

I might have it in the attic somewhere. If I can find it, I'll show you guys.
