Germany, Austria and Hungary are currently putting pressure on the Czech Republic to give the Sudetenland back to the Germans that were kicked out post WW2.
For those of you who never covered the Munich agreement in histroy, basically Hitler, in an attempt to unify german people, demanded that Czechoslovakia cede the 'sudetenland' to him, or he would kill them. The sudetenland was like a ring running around the entire border of Czechoslovakia inhabitted by germans. The Czechs, out of fear of persecution, surrendered the land on the promise that Hitler would leave them alone. A year later, Hitler marched in and killed more than 800,000 Czechs.
After Hitlers defeat, the Czechs (understandably IMO) reclaimed the Sudetenland and kicked out all the Germans, and killed some of them as well.
Now, they are being bullied in to giving it back.... Thoughts?

Muffy - you have any links to news stories? What makes those countries think that germany has the right to that land?

I never understood this. If you get win land in a war, you keep it.

I'm half German so I have a strong opinion of this.
I think I should get fucked and that I don't deserve shit ;)
Seriously, it seems to be a tactic but I'd like to read the references as well. Links = good.
Inform me.

Yes, I was using rather strong language, sorry Kol - but it was just one extreme v another - you know how polls go. I actually can see the plight of the sudetenland Germans, I don't think 2 wrongs ever make a right, and from that perspective, they shouldn't have been kicked out for what Hitler did. I do however think that the Czech republic should get to keep sudetenland under Czech control, as otherwise they are effectively (although perhaps not legally) landlocked by Germany - a position I would imagine few countries would want to be in - which is why I posted a poll ....
anyway, as to links, I didn't get the story out of an online newspaper (call me oldfashioned, but I like to read the paper version), and it has actually been happening for some time, which may explain why it is not 'front page' news material.
My attention was drawn to it when on Tuesday I was speaking to my former political philosophy lecturer who had just returned from The Czech Republic (where she was born) - and it was a subject of much media attention over there.

Because it had been occupied for many years by the sudetenland germans prior to the munich agreement.

Actually, the Sudetenland is only a quarter moon shaped strip, about 1/10th of the size of Czechoslovakia. But it does hold about 3 million Germans or so.
