i'm new here, just to tell you before i go on...

i haven't read a book in years, i mean a LOOOONG time... and recently i've been getting bored watchin sit-coms and simpson reruns... and discovery or TLC ain't cutting it either....so i decided to start reading...
i was just wondering some books you people would suggest reading.. on the intellectual side... i've been smoking way too much weed while watching TV or playin video games... and i need to gain some levels of intelligence back... readings a good start http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif

Depends what you are in to I guess... Oh and Hi.

I most recently read 'he died with a felafel in his hand'... it is a book written by some guy about his encounters with his various flat mates (housemates I think you lot call them or room mates or something) - anyway... it is goddamn funny - everything from dead junkies to credit card scams and rat infested kitchens...But it's probably not everyones cup of tea.

Anything by Eddings, Fiest, Heinlein or Rice gets my seal of approval.

Based on your post there, i'd say start with "Highlights" magazine and work your way up from there. http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif

"Highlights" - aaaaaahahahhahhhahhaha

Sci Fi... Let's see here. AH! Larry Niven has a series of short stories put together in one book based around a central character. A bit of hard science is worked in to get the gray matter moving.

Look for "Crashlander" by Larry Niven. I've read it several times.

I'm not one to read fantasy but an acquaintance didn't believe me when I told him how much I read. He challenged me to read the first book in a series of ten without getting interested. I failed.

811 pages later, "The Eye of the World" by Robert Jordan turned out to be quite an enjoyable read.

If you want to mix a little horror in with fantasy, try reading some H.P. Lovecraft. I'll race you through "The Doom that Came to Sarnath".

Hey, at least you WANT to read. That's a good thing.

Here's one I think everyone should read at least once.

If redX appears, that's "The Naked Ape" by Desmond Morris.

That was going to be my suggestion as well, also if you're into suspense, Jeffery Deaver (The Bone Collector) and Tami Hoag are great!!!

Orson Scott Card:

Ender's Game, and Ender's Shadow... Damn fine books

Stephen Barnes: Street Lethal... Cyberpunk, but GOOD cyberpunk...

William Gibson: Neuromancer, Mona Lisa Overdrive.... More cyberpunk. shit he INVENTED it, I think.

Anything by Terry Pratchett but start with Small Gods... Om rocks!

If ya like Star Wars, read all the Timothy Zahn stuff.

Heir to the Empire.
Dark Force Rising.
Last Command.

Star Trek, I, Q. by Peter David, aw hell, anything he writes is cool.

Historical stuff.... Book of Five Rings, by Miyamoto Mushashi. They actually have corporate types reading this book now and using the philosophy contained therein for business purposes.... smart fuckers, they.

Kurt Vonnegut:
Welcome to the Monkeyhouse, a collection of short stories. And Player Piano, another gem.

Go, make the people at borders all happy, and grab me a coffee, will ya? Not a latte, or crapachino, just a coffee.... large... lotsa milk, 3 sugars... Thanks.

Papillon by Henry Charriere cheers me up in difficult moments.

Sorrow floats by Tim Sadlin is one of the best road books I've ever read, but I've yet to meet anyone whose ever heard of it.

Star Wars is a book?
