all i say is that it could have been a far more better movie...

too bad stanley kubrick(sp?) died... :(

I did like some parts about the movie(like the sci-fi stufff). I think the 2 robots in it (the kid and Jude Law) represent love, but are completely different... catch my drift?

the ending sucked...

I am..... I was!

Funny how the boy robot wanted to become a real boy, but in fact he was real. His journey was like no other.

Well, I bought it but still haven't seen it. I have one or two questions about it that may have to be answered with experience instead of opinion.

For example:

1. Are the visual effects and storyline engaging enough to keep the attention of a 5 and a 2-year-old long enough for mommy and daddy to go upstairs and, um, gather the laundry?

2. Will it be so engaging that the 5-year-old constantly runs upstairs to tell mommy and daddy that they "have to see this", thereby ruining the entire laudry-gathering experience?

3. How many viewings before it can no longer be used as a laundry gathering tool?

Stuff like that ;)

visual effects = teh neato

i really don't know, you'd have to press your luck,

"daddy, are you hurting mommy?"

After getting the kids to bed, Mrs. Kol and I decided to watch it for the first time.

52 minutes into it, Mrs. Kol told me, "I can't watch this anymore." I choked back the lump in my throat and told her that I understood but I was going to see it through to its conclusion. She hadn't seen that I needed some water-damage control under my glasses.

Nope. It's not one I would start up for the kids to do laundry. I might watch it with Holly and answer questions if I can.

So far it's a hearbreaker.

Done deal. It is teh watchded.

Stanley should have put off his meeting with the reaper. Shit! Has he no priorities?!

Millenium Man meets Blade Runner meets E.T. meets Terminator meets Close Encounters meets Pinnochio meets Water World. Did I leave anything out?

Those first 52 minutes, hard as they were on my heart, were the best of the entire flick. Sure, I got into the whole "eternal love" part but the mishmash makes me wonder toward what age group this movie is aimed. It began as something for young adults and ended up as a bedtime story. I'd like to show my kids the end but then they'd get confused when I opt out of showing them the beginning. Then they'd pitch a fit, I'd send them to their rooms and that ear-smoke thing would get the room all foggy.

Well, there's nothing like experimentation to validate a theory. Holly just pushed "Play".

Kol...
There is a lot more to this film than you think. It amounts to a big slam on the Judeo-Christians and winds up pushing one of Kubrick's pet theories on religion (I think he was a scientologist, wasn't he?). But aside from that it was a pretty good film. Very well done.

no offense squee, but you sound like my parents (missionaries) and the guys who do the movie reviews for "focus on the family"

Everything to them was a 'conspiracy' (read trying to infiltrate the U.S. with non christian views, there by degrading the moral fiber of the country.../me snickers) against "Judeo-Christians."

For example: my mom hates harry potter because of the "witchcraft"

But she doesn't mind Lord of The Rings or Chronicles of Narnia, which include magic and the like also.

She says it is because they were written by christian authors, and there was a direct parallel between the fight for good and evil between the protaganists and antagonists in the books, and god and satan.

She has never read one book in the series. She doesn't know that the author of the Harry Potter series is a christian. She doesn't know that there is fighting between good and evil forces, and that good always conquers. She doesn't know diddly shit about the book, but she hates the series anyways.

heh. Conspiracy against the Judeo-Christians.

you do realize that is a load, right? I mean, come on, christianity/catholocism/ect, in one denomination or another has the largest number of "believers" under it's belt than any other religion in the U.S., but yet the whole U.S. is out to get you. Think how athiests and other freethinkers (who are one of the largest minorities of believers) like I felt when the goverment started backing a specific religion ("judeo-christianity") if not in words, but in actions, after the 9/11 incident.

Wanna talk about a conspiracy?

Being that I am always way late seeing movies, I just watched it last night.

2 thumbs up, really enjoyed it. I had no idea it was supposed to be a Kubrick movie until I read this.

If he had done it, the music would have been been better (It wasnt bad). I even liked the ending.

I'd heartily recommend it. I found it to be a real good thinker movie, that didnt require too much thinking during, but plenty afterwards.
