This is an experiment in the use of AOL point and speak in composition of posts for the hypertribe.

I have had this microphone and software for several months, I don’t use it very often. I got to thinking that it might be useful in putting my thoughts down on paper, so to speak. I often find myself running ahead of my thoughts, or more properly speaking my typing doesn’t keep up with them.

I think that with more practice this will be a very useful tool for me, as it allows me to just simply speak what is in my head. Of course afterwards I have to go back and fix the punctuation, fix the spelling errors, and occasionally fix the places where the computer simply did not recognize what I was trying to say.

Basically this is voice recognition software. The price from AOL was very good as I recall, I believe I spent $89 for both the software and hardware. There are of course limitations to its capabilities; but the more I use it the better its recognition of my particular speaking style and pronunciation of words becomes

Question: Do any of you use any similar product? If so, how you find it? In many ways it reminds me of the fictional VoiceWriter of the science-fiction world - a device many authors have devoutly wished for.
