Do Not Name a Feeling

what happens when you do not name a feeling? you look at it with emotion, and more directly therefore having a different relationship to it. you are forced to look at it as new, like an un-named flower, always new, and bright to you. when you do not name a group of people, you are pushed to look at each face and not treat them as a mass of people. therefore, you are much more alert and observing, more understanding, you have a better sense of love and pity...yet as a mass, its not as so.

if you dont label, you address each and every feeling as it comes. when you name it, is the feeling different from the name?

surely the mind is not just the observer. when the mind is thinking in terms of words, symbols and images there is no thought serperate of the feeling. then the mind is quite..not made so, but is. when the mind is quite it can the feeling that arise's can be dealt with immediately. it is only when we give names to feelings, they strengthen and make the thought to continue, they are stored to the center of our mind, from there we give further names, either to strengthen or to communicate them.

so if we dont have connections to each feeling, and we dont named them, we allow others feelings and thoughts to come in and interact with them and therefore leaving our minds fufilled.

Ponder this.

What if the naming of things gives them more important stature in our minds and hearts? Do you prepose that we all abandon the naming of people, even our own children? How would we then address one another? True, at first glance what you say is a useful way of unwind the springs in our heads, but it clearly cannot ever become the norm.

Were we to give up words and what they mean to us, you'd not be ablr to understand what I'm attempting to convey to you now. True, I may be able to give you the gist of it by making noises and such, but it would all be a murky haze, and I'd have no way of knowing if you understood.

Hopefully I didnt misunderstand your intent and make an ass of myslef with this post.

Buddha's Penis!

i was just thinking about this myself.
it seems to me that to label an emotion takes its rawness and purity away. if i'm "sad" and i analyze the situation and realize that i'm "sad", i have then taken a step away from that emotion, effectively removing myself from it. to ponder your happiness gets the same result, though the essential feeling of well-being might stay the pure feeling of goodness (eloquence. ooooh yeah) has been interrupted.
it's zen, i suppose, buddha-nature and whatnot. as the penis i pitch the tent of humble earthliness, and don't presume to know anything about that.

Would this be a rough translation of the original statement?

"Describe how you're feeling."

We've been given words that are supposed to cover the range but they always seem to miss the target. If I may compare emotion to the sense of taste, there is no possible way to describe the sensation with a single word unless another has shared the experience.

Emotions are rich mixtures concocted by numerous chefs. Each recipe is unique. Some people can take the variety of ingredients given to them and create a masterpiece. Some wad it up and throw it in the toilet.

"How do you feel?"

Perhaps one question shy of

"Why?"

I like me some books and all...but anything by Ayn Rand should be burned...and not just set afire...I mean torched...as in gather up all her works into a pile and use a fucking flame thrower followed by an H-bomb...or just put little tags on them so that if anyone tries to take them out of the middle school library(where they belong) an alarm goes off and blue dye explodes on the moron attempting to take it home for a read...God...I hate that lady...no other author on earth would have spent 3000 pages just to explain some simple fucking point...hell...she borrows heavily from Hinduism in all her shitbox works and Adam Smith said it with more eloquence about 100 years earlier...and he managed to cover a shitload more material...kill kill kill!! I want her fucking head on a steak!!

Ayn Rand=Most Over-rated Author Ever!!
