I was just watching a special on A&E on worldwide correction systems, and was faily amazed at what I saw when China was introduced.

Now, China does have slave labor camps with horrible conditions, mostly for political prisoners, but they also a very effective prisons for other criminals.

They seem more of a military camp than a prison, at least in American terms, and I tell you, it gets the job done. The average return rate of freed prisoners is a mere 4%. FOUR PERCENT!! I believe in the US is it is over 50%. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Strict laws are inforced, in a strict environment, but everyone knows their place. Guards do not carry weapons, and neither do inmates. Prisoners are not allowed freedom of expression, something that very effectivly deters conflict over differences among inmates.

They believe in rehabilition through labor. 8 hour work days. Time to relax and socialize. Very healthy meals. Very clean environments, and an overall safe area.

I honestly think the US justice system needs to look at this way of rehabilitation.

The US system is horrible. Prisoners are given far too many rights, priveleges, possessions, etc. It is just like a home with bars. All the problems that they had on the outside, are just carried into the prisons. Gangs. Muders. Drugs. It's all there, because ths system sucks.

Although the ACLU serves some very good purposes, it also undermines certain objectives. Prisoners should have no rights. We've taken away their freedoms, so why should they have anything else? Take away their belongings. No posters on the walls. No pictures. Nothing. Make them work. REHABILITATE THEM! A person who could barely afford to live on the outside, would not think twice if the chance arose to go back to jail. Everything they could want is there.

The United State's version of rehabilitation is horribly tainted. There needs to be order, rules, discipline, strict enforcement of laws. But this is not what happens. It's a crock of shit, and a waste of MY money.

You make jail a place they don't want to return to. You educate them on how to function with society in an effective manner. Set them with opportunities after they are released so they don't go right back to their old ways.

I'm telling you, there are so many things that need to be improved, I just am not in a position to do something about it. Stupid system. http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/mad.gif

8 hours? That's it? Shit... I could do that easy. Even if ti were hard labor. Yeah, I'd have to get back into the swing of things, but I had worked 10-12 hour days in the past busting my ass the whole time.

but I'm with ya on the privilges thing. There is no call for TV, radio, personal effects in a jail system. Why should a person who was violated the rights of another have any of their own?

Sadly, what you propose will never come to be. To radical for us free thinking Americans.

I wouldn't be suprise If the that prison was cleaned up before the shoot. China goes to great lengths to cover up anything that is deemed damaging to their image. I would take those stats with a grain of salt since a lot of politicians and officials are corrupt or are part of organized crime rings. You know what is scary? Chinas biggest business..errr...company is the PLA? PLA= People liberation Army. SOrry for bad grammar and spelling, had some nyquil.

I would agree with you, Deadpool, but I was trying to bring a conversation piece to the forum to discuss the sad state of the United States' Correctional system. Anyone living here knows it doesn't work. And I was just throwing ideas out because military boot camp type instiutions do a good job of changing people.

But Prisoners should have rights! http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Such a fucking crock of shit.

I agree.

Prisoners leave the courtroom laughing and giving the judge the finger.

It should be like in the 50's where the prisoner leaves kicking and screaming knowing his life is going to suck. I volunteered to be verbally abused, worked till I was on the edge of consciousness made to feel inferior etc... Why is it not a violation of rights to be forged into a person of character in the military when it is if I was in prison. In 13 weeks of boot camp I saw myself and my contemporaries mature 5 years. You learn the limits you thought you had were only part of your potential. You learn your body is much more durable than you thought.
Why is it wrong to give criminals a positive life changing experience. A one month tour of hard labor is more effective than a lifetime in our current system.

Woof.
If it's so sick, why are you laughing?
