i collect lots of things: comic books (sandman, preacher, astro city, grendel are among my favs), ankhs, pens (i loooove me some good writing utensils), and strange and/or antique boxes.

my significant other says i'm a pack rat. he's probably right.

i collect mad magazine (not super specials) and some comics.. (not crap.. mostly slave labour graphics)

i used to play magic, that game kicked until they pumped out so many bad expansions that i had to vomit

I used to collect stamps and coins. ONLY because my brother did it and I had to do everything he did. I ended up just giving them all to him in the end.

i was merely curious as to what KIND of samples she collects. are they localized? do you have a mineral preference? do your samples have a high phosphate content? do your samples have anything in common, or are they just random? what do you look for in your samples? do you collect them yourself? do you look for disseminated sulphide compounds in your samples? do you sort by texture? or by date?

I collect gadgets. I can't help it. When I see something cool (and can afford it) it goes in my collection even if I never intend to use it. As it turns out, some of the least expensive ones are the most useful.

I also collect knowledge. I'm working on the display-case but it'll take some time to complete.

Recently, I combined the two and helped someone get the goods on a cheating spouse. For free http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif I don't charge friends or family since I know the bill would only add to the impending emotional debt. Before you ask, NO, I don't PI for a living.

Like Kol I collect gadgets. Test instruments computer junk etc.
Also I have modest collections of Comics, Comic book cards, Hammer brand pen knives and gyroscopes.
Egg head comes to mind.
If it can be measured I pretty much can measure it.

My house is a plethera of collectables.
*Art both originals and prints, mainly wildlife in the flatwork. Masks have always been a favorite of mine and we have quite a few although many are of our own creation, those mainly Raku or fused glass.
*Skulls, I don't hunt but have amassed a large collection over the years. The largest is a Bison and my pride and joy is a huge Kodiak bear skull that was killed by Fish and Game as it had an infected injury to it's leg that was too far gone for treatment.
*Books, hundreds of all types
*Plants, I like the exotics, particularly succulents. The collection is small at the moment but grows constantly. Big Al and I never pass up the opportunity to visit interesting plant shops and nurseries.

I could go on...

I also TRY to collect glass floats and other ancient/out dated nautical paraphernalia... the floats are hard to come by now days, though...

Gems, although it is a holdover from me doing a bit of silversmithing years ago mixed with the fact that I sneak off every once in a while and do a little prospecting.
I have lapidary equipment so I can work down material that I have collected. As with a lot of gem collectors, I seldom look at what we have as they aren't something you want to leave sitting out.

Glass beads, this is an aside to the fact that we have a glass studio where we make beads on occasion and will collect other beadwork as we can appreciate what goes into it.

Here is a wierd one for ya, I used to collect cockroaches. I had colonies of roaches from all over the world.
Amazing creatures actually, the oldest existing creature on the planet is the Madagascar Hissing Cockroach (Gromphiderina (SP) Portentosa), which has been here virtually unchanged for over 200 million years.

I collect cds and music memorabilia. I've spent countless hours going through ebay looking for rare digis, marked releases, demo tapes, imports, etc...I've also spent a countless amount of money on it. I'm the only person I know that will spend 50 bucks on a cd cause it has an extra track (that's usually a cover) and sometimes a nifty poster.

I also collect stuffed animals and minatures. Please hold your laughing until all my reasons have been mentioned. http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif I started doing it when I was a little girl, and I just never really grew out of it. I used to collect comic books...still have some Cry for Dawn stuff, but I lost interest in that.

I met both Joe's, Monks and linsner, back at a con in NYC in the late 80's, and both were real cool guys. They took the time to talk to me like a person, and not just some fanboy who dug the pretty pics of the redhead in the book.

Then I went over to Jack Kirby's table and cheated him outta $5... hahahahaha, Jack fucking Kirby... To do any worse in the realm of comics, I would have had to smash Stan Lee's glasses with my fist.

Video game consoles. I'd have about 4 more but a few years ago I thought I could stop being a nerd if I sold them. It didn't work.

My pride and joy is my 3do FZ-1 panasonic. 36 games. Thanks ebay! I got it on the day dreamcast came out so my living room was literally piled with video games. Is that what heaven is like? If so, I'll convert.
