One thing I have noticed in the few stats I have looked at was that they like to include drug busts in the overall crime scene in the US when they talk about how crimeridden we are.
Interesting to see it stripped down.

Australia is indeed a nation founded on a convict society. Remember though that the population is relatively small, and it only takes a couple of gun battles between rival bike gangs to boost up the old percentages. Not to mention 'family' rivalries that have been imported straight from Europe.

As far as England and Wales being up there in the violent crime statistics, that's tradition. Everyone is made to leave the pubs at the same hour, so they've just comsumed as much alcohol as they can in the last half hour (last round). They get tossed out on the street in a bunch and have a punch up outside the local chip shop.

The high murder rate in the good ol' US, me thinks that may have a connection with the availability of guns.
