I'm thinking of upgrading and am unsure which to go with... I've done some testing at work, but that's with basic apps etc. anybody have any (horror)stories on the current generation of processors that would make me swing one way or the other?

The only chip I really dont like are celerons, they run way too hot and have cooked many motherboards where I work. I like AMD a little better then Intel. In my experience they seem too run faster than Intels at a comprable price.

Just keep in mind that if you put the "wrong" power supply into a AMD system, goodbye warranty. THAT is the one reason that I dont groove them, and will do my best to stick with Intel

i only had two intel systems. the first one was a 486 100 that my friend found in the rain next to a garbage pile. i took it apart and let it dry then slaped it back together and ya know what.... it had to be one of the fastest 486s i have ever seen in my life. and the second one i still have. its another 486 100. it was a 486 66(eeew) but i dumped the cpu from that other computer in it and now it fuckin cooks for an old piece of shit. now as for AMD.... im starting to not like them anymore. i once had a K6 233 it rocked ass until it started fucking up for an unknown reason. i think it over heated, i had to underclock it to 200, over heated again, so i underclocked again now it was at 166. then i built this nightmare. 400mhz K6-2, 50% of the time it runs fine the other half it runs into a wall. (i bet after i reply ill get a blue screen for talking shit) i dont think that will help you very much but hey, it was the best i could do for you right now.

so far i say AMD=Bad Intel=Good

Dr. DRAM, I agree that anything AMD that came before the Athlon is kinda shitty. My folks have a K6-2 300, and it sucks total ass... I've seen Pentium 100s run faster.

I am curious to see if one or the other becomes an actual winner in the processor game, or if the market will stabilize itself and leave us with 2 good options. I remember when we were seeing other companies trying to break into Intels marketshare and failing miserably (can we say Cyrix anyone?)... Any thoughts?

Edit: Can't type :P
