ok.
what happens is, a lot of the time, a big car dealer wont buy the car from the factory right up. they will lease it, and pay rent on it, more less.
usaully, the cars they sell for a bill over invoice are old models they are lookin to get rid of. but trust me, they are still making more that 100$, trust me.
and when they can show you papers that show...well, making invoices and what not is very easy to make.....

What is a good equation to figure out how much to actually pay for a vehicle from a dealer? Cost+$300? Also, what is the percentage the dealer gets back from the manufacturer at the end of the year for all the cars they sell?
Also, any tips when buying a car?

well, not to sound snobish, but for our dealership it is BMW's and Mercedes primarily.
it all depends, on higher end cars as BM's and Benzo's the mark up it higher than persay and Dodge or Ford.
lets say the manufacturer sells us the carat 100k and we can sell it for 120k.
but usually the mark up on other cars is more than 300$, more like 3 - 4k sometimes if you can move the car quickly.
but i dont always deal with the purchasing of cars from the manufacturer..i just sell/move them how ever i can, and i take 3% on those cars....
the used cars we have my father has me more less running that section. and with used cars your gain can go anywhere from 5k to 100$, all depends how you buy and move them.
tommorow i will elaborate with more info when im not high and i can ask my father for some paper work. deal?

YES! I was hoping someone would post a topic along these lines.
Here's the deal. Within the next week or two, I'm planning on buying my first car from the dealership. I'm going to Toyota Classic, and kiwi's brother is going to help me. I think I can trust him, but I don't want to sound like I'm a complete dumb ass, so what things should I look out for?
What questions should I ask?
What (in your opinion) is a good and bad Toyota?
Also, I want to tell him my price range (that I'm willing to spend), should I tell him less? Will he try to persuade me for something over? I'm looking to put around 2/3's down on the car. Should I tell him this?
Thanks! >=)

before i dive into this:
what year are you looking for?
how much do you want to spend?
what model are you looking for?
if you can tell me this, i can try my damndest to help ya.
but for now heres a few hints:
my guessing is that its used from your wording.
ask for a carfax report. (www.carfax.com)
this involves the V.I.N( vehicle identification number.)
that report can tell you where the car came from, if the miles are true(not rolled back), and if there are any problems(water damage, previous accident) with the car...and see if there are any infrigments on the title itself.

BTW, fuck putting down 2/3's of the cost. because if you but 2/3's down on the car, and for whatever reason you decide to back out, no matter what reason, they by law can keep the deposit.
put down $300 - #500.

How come whenever I ask for some replacement rubber weatherseal (about 4 inches worth has worn away at the top front of both of the doors of my car) they need a make/model and then when i tell them 1978 Pontiac Trans Am they want me to go to a specialist? Fuck, it's rubber, how specific can it be? I know i can get a complete seal replacement from my Pontiac parts dealer but it's too fucking much and I only need 4 inches worth. Help please.

pep boys.
auto zone.
or any other automotive store...try one of those places.
shit, try even ebay.
or, you can just sweet talk the dealer into doing a little research as to where you are able to buy a foot or 2 of it, and maybe they can order it for you.

Alright, I'm looking to get a '97. What I really want is a Celica, but I don't think I can find one for the price I want. I'm looking to spend no more than 10,000 dollars, but would go as high as 11,000.
The guy claims to be able to give me the car at the price they bought it for. I'm certain he will take the cost down, but I don't believe I'll get that good of a deal.
I'm considering a Camry or a Paseo. I want something that doesn't really look like a family car (something that looks nice), but is dependable.
I want to put a lot down on the car because I need to build my credit up. Right now, its horrible and almost non-exsitant. I *am* responsible, but I fucked up when I was fucked up, and need to clear my record. I also need my payments as LOW as possible because I'm estimating my insurance to be a good 200 dollars a month.
thanks! >=)

What IS the margin dealers work on? I.e. by what percentage should we take the price down to get the lowest figure we should be able to negotiate?

www.kbb.com (http://www.kbb.com)
click retail value, and you can cahnge options, milage..etc...on there to suit you, and you can see what a dealer would 90 % of the time put on thier car.
right now, for a '97 Paseo with a 1.5 cyl, with averge milage; $9,175.
but remember, thats Conn. value, it might be higher or even lower in TX.
kelley blue book is a great tool, it has every car out there to look up. i suggest looking it up, and exploring it, so you have a backing in your mind when you go.
as for building your credited with putting down a lot of money, its not a good idea. like i said. if you spent 10k on a car, and put down 7k, and is by some chance, an act of god, or WHATEVER way you are not able to take the car, that 7k stays in the dealers pocket....no ways around it.
if you really need to build your credit, try this. if ya got a credit card or 2, take $500 out of one, or shit, even each, and pay back the minimum each month, until its paid. therefore youre not losing any money, usually, and your bulding your credit. its a lot safer than putting down big money on a car.
as for insurance, make sure the car isnt red. try to avioding buying a standerd shift car, and feel free to put down every blemish the car has on the insurence report.
i hope i was able to help some what.

like i said, it varies, the mark up can range from 20 % to 1%. it all depends on how the dealer is moving their cars and what kind of stock they have, and how long they have had the cars.

well, i dont know any specefic.
perhaps you find a car for a lot cheaper, and its the perfect car, and you want that car much more, but you have the money on that, and you have to buy that car now, or you lose the money.
or hell, ANY act of God, if some how something happens.
its just not worth the risk, to me.
a down payment is like a good faith note, saying you will buy this item no matter what.

Say a friend of mine owed like a few thousand to a credit card company and they seem to have forgotten all about him, what's the lowdown?
They just gave up on him, registered him as a bad debt and moved right along?
