Change is stability.

change is the only constant. change is inevitable & necessary for evolution, of the self & of the species. change is good.

why then are so many afraid of it? without change there is stagnation, complacency, inertia.

there are about to be many changes in my life...and i so anticipate them! i welcome the transformation ahead, even the uncertainity that will accompany it. i thrive on change, on exploration (inner & outer), on growth.

i bring this up because so many at the job i am leaving are in shock & awe that i would just up & leave a place of stability & security to do a little soul-searching and discover what i really want to do. many of them have been here for years, in the same position, completely unmotivated to do something inevitably greater - and by greater i mean something more self-fulfilling.

what are your thoughts on these things?

Stagnation is death. That is why all "utopias" fail. People need constant challenge, and unchanging circumstance can never provide it. On the other hand, people are afraid of the future because they cannot deal with uncertainties.

I don't mind change as progress.
I work hard to create change.
(Based on what I think I want of course)

But the universe has its own order and change (as we see it) is not always action affecting us.
A lot of the time its just the turning of the planets.
Without going into a long rant about circumstance vrs problems lets try this.

Imagine gathering a pocket of pebbles each day.
Then spreading them out evenly along the endges of your sidewalk.
Sorting them by size and shape as you go.

First you grab every pebble you can find.
Then you start picking them up based on the groups you can put them in.
Finally you are passing over fine pebbles because they won't finish your walk the way you want.

Then one day you walk down your path among your well organized, neatly arranged pebbles.

Then the grass grows through them.
The birds and kids carry them away.
Some of the trees fill out and others die.
The concrete cracks and starts to crumble.

With the changing of the environment your pebbles loose their purpose and their definition.

So you dig it all up.
Pour a new path and start to landscape again.

I would bet that many of your friends are concerned about the unknown.
The world outside their houses that doesn't involve spending money at circuit city or applebees.
The part of the world that doesn't care about their jet ski or barbeque grill.
Lady, you seem like the kinda gal that looks forward to meeting that part of the world.
Good for you.
I wish you happiness in your change.

When I was a younger Cruise, I worked at a place where the tenured associates had been there forever. I was the only associate to come and go in a two year period. Part of the reason for my departure was the stagnation of the place. Nothing ever changed. Duties were the same. The same lies, rumors, jokes and such passed round and round. Without change a person can not grow.

Exit your Chrysalis young lady. Let yourself become the beautiful butterfly.
