Seeing as how a few of you are already in the IT field, I thought I'd ask you peeps what resources (books, courses) should I look into, or buy, to break into that field. Keeping in mind that any purchases I make in the near future are REALLY gonna hurt my cash flow.
Thanks guys.

Following is a quote from my resident IT specialist:
" There are many aspects to the IT field. You need to decide what part
you want to go into, such as networking, desktop applications, routers,
web application and design. These are just a few off the top of my head.
You might want to check a couple of websites such as Novell.com for net
working, Microsoft.com for desktop applications, and Cisco (not sure of
the website) for routers. There is also DBA which is Database Administrator,
which would be Unix, Oracle and Linux. It would be impossible to point
you to one set of books, with everything that is out there, and
expect to find all the answers there. What I am saying, there is wide
world out there in the IT field, so do a little research and go baby go!
Another website to check out, especially for Microsoft, is http://www.mcsebraindumps.com/
You will need to know a few things before utilizing this site, but its
great because it will test you on things that are directly on the
certification test. A number of people I know have used this site with
great success."
Best of luck http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif

Based on what I currently know, I get the feeling that I'm more for the networking aspect of things. I'm a hands-on kinda guy. It just makes more sense for me to start there.
Thanks Kol, it's a start.... it just seemes like the right place for me to ask a question like this. And do thank your IT friend in my stead as well.

Actually Network + Certification for Dummies is a good place to start. It gives you the basics in plain English, and from there you can move into Microsoft, Cisco or whatever route you decide. Certs are actually more important than a degree in the networking field. Stab in a little *nix (Linux, Unix) knowledge and you'll be on your way. Good luck!
