Anyone ever seen Battlebots? Be it on Comedy Central, or the original British show?
I say we get our best and brightest(Almost all of us) to draw up a design for the most Deadly, Ferrovourous bot to ever grace the cage in Vegas.
This would kick all ass.
AND, if by some means we could make a small LLC out of project members, pool our funds together, and get this built, I think we may even be able to use it as a tax exemption!
Anyhow, tell me what you think about this. It would make the proposed BBQ from the SPF pale in comparison.

Can you use explosives?
We could make one that lobs grenades.

Well, first of all, it can't be one of those gimmicky machines some people have on that show. "Our bot's gonna win because he spins 50 mph." They fail to mention that it has no weight and a center of gravity that is far too high. If they would allow it, I'd make something cube-like that had a bunch of tubes that could project some kind of erroding acid. That would own. Also, it should have pictures of gone~away printed on the sides so the other teams would stare in disbelief at it. http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif

I actually had one of these things drawn out one time. You can go to some web site and get all the specs on what they can do, how much they can weigh, and all that good crap. My design was for it to sit 1/4 inch off the ground, maximum weight, and if it was turned over on any side, it could right itself again. The weapon was a spike that used compressed CO2. Whenever you activate the weapon, you release 1200psi of air into a cylinder that drives the spike into your opponent. Then I found out that compressed air is illegal. Crap. Maybe that is the reason I stopped...hmmm..

What we need is a plasma torch. And some form of ion pulse cannon. I'll leave it up to Kol to invent that.

I've caught a few eps of it, and came up with a few ideas. There are a lot of teams out there that go for flipping the other robots. but I've yet to see one that actually attacks from above. I had this quick idea for a bot that and a electromagnet and a hi speed drill on it's underbelly. It could climb over the top of the opposition, and drill the ever-loving piss out of it's inards....
If this seems like something possible, lets keep batting ideas around, even if it never comes to be.

hmm...love the show...LOVE the idea...
I believe that compressed air is legal - that is a good idea...but it wont work on wedge shaped robots, unless it was angled in a downward direction a little bit.
I also like the magnet idea...but again..will only work on box shaped ones.
The compressed air spike angled somewhat downwards would be good for most robots...except for one that will spin with spikes on the side...most likely WE would be knocked around by the spinning.
Here are some of my ideas.... http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif
1.) an arm as close to the ground as possible w/ some FAST raising action to quickly flip an opponet.
2.) we would also have a spike pumped by compressed air that could shoot out to pierce armor...preferably a long one, and with a somewhat down angle.
3.) the spike could shoot out of the flipping arm, and have an expandable point, so that once it is IN the robot, it WONT come out unless WE let it http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif In that case, we could violently and at our lesiure pick up and carry/bash/flip most robots.
4.) Robots cant shoot projectiles that AREN'T attachted to the robot...some nice metal wire attatched to a spike that could shoot out of the sides to fend off any attackers willing to attack us from the side.
Now, why in the fuck do Ihave all of this shit thought up??? because it is 4:45 in the morning and I cant remember the last call I had up here at work.... http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif anyways...I think it would kick ass to do this...but we would need a financial backer, and someone w/ much mechanical/technical knowledge to do so...any takers on those to areas? I know if we all pulled together we could think of a practically unbeatable robot http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif heh heh heh....I also like the idea of the "gone~away" sticker on the front http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/smile.gif we could have the background skull on this site for the top, and the demon image at the top of the site, on the sides of the robot http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif heh heh heh...damn I have way to much time at work!!!

What about a directed EMP which would trash all the electronics in an opposing bot, leaving it dead in the water?
Rapidly setting glue gun!
A magno-vox retaliator unit? no .. I made that up...
Or an invulnerable ball which didn't really attack, it was just completely invulnerable?
A small arc welding unit .. haahahararagh ...
Explosives are always good though...

EMP's and explosives are both illegal unfortunatly http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/frown.gif
heh..a shame..EMP's would kick ass.... http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'll have to spend some time here (http://users.intercomm.com/stevenn/kiss/builder.htm) before I give any more thought to the design I have in mind.
I'm thinking retractable motile appendages on the flat surfaces of a dodecahedronal shell. I'll read up before I put more thought into the design.
You think I'm joking. Maybe I am http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/wink.gif

What about napalm?
What, indeed, about atomics? Can we use some form of radgun?

There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you still get the same soaking.

Nope. They say that electricity is a no-no. and I think all forms of directed radiation are out as well. so no EMP's, no lasers over 5 milliwatts, basically, just NO....
sucks tho. palsma cutters would be a nice touch.
