Tonight the whole World came to my house. I really didn't know what to expect, as the details about the whole ceremonies was kept secret even from the flock of Zion. I was amazed that the Organizing Committee did such a great job. Yeah, it was a little 'artistic' and had some themes in there that you had to really pay attention to or miss; but on the whole, it was fantastic.
I want to point out what a wonderful thing you saw with the five Tribes of Utah coming together. NEVER have these five groups of indigenous (sp.) peoples ever agree on anything or get along good enough to participate in such an event. The entire show was a good history lesson for the World as to how Utah came about and what our heritage is.
I had a wonderful evening with my 13 and 8 year old neices as we watched the World rejoice in our Games. Never again in my lifetime will such an event take place so close to my home. I hope you can enjoy the Games as much as we will here in Zion.
I know that he's not a popular man around these parts, but I want to give an "adda-boy" to ol' Dubya. He didn't have to come to the Games. In fact, he's the first President of any Country to open a winter Olympics. He didn't have to spend two hours with the American athletes in the village. He didn't have to open up the Games while standing in the athletes' section of the stadium. He didn't have to ( and wasn't planning on ) staying for the whole event. He didn't have to talk to some athlete's family when she handed him a cell phone in the stands.
He didn't have to.
But he did.
And for that I shall give him good credit.
