Lets be realistic.
His grandfather was a great (or at least able/ambitious) man.
He rose up more than one social position in a time of great strife.
He achieved more than his share of success.
His father was raised with the residue of that appreciation for what was earned and what it took to get it.
But the grand child is just a kid who was given more than 99% of the rest of the world has and expects it to be there.
This is NOT a conversation about
"the haves and the have-nots"
This is a conversation about a very real human condition.

Ok, bear with me.
Remember the rotary telephone?
I do. My Dad was a phone man.
We used them and they worked.
Then we got a touch tone phone.
Suddenly the rotary phone seemed incredibly slow and inefficient.
It is frustrating to try to used one, though they work very well for so long.
When we moved to my new office building we got Centrex lines (for businesses).
You have to dial 9 to get out.
adding that one # caused so much aggrevation for so long.
Now I don't even notice it...but at home I have no problem NOT dialing 9.
My point: You acclimate to your circumstances
(Circumstances = the things in your life you DO NOT directly control)

Back to the "King"
If you are a peasant, working for a lord, the best you can hope is to find a way to be put in charge of other peasants or be of some important service to the lord.
You die with a few pieces of gold that your children can use.
They don't have to start where you did.
If, through some twist of fate, the lord is killed and you stand out as the leader of the peasants, you could actually be made nobility.
You have just jumped out of your class.
And you can't go back. (why is the point of the discusion)
Now you are a lord and there comes a great famine and a war and a flood and the king is killed and the armys clash and you raise your own and conquer them all.
Now you are king.
Just a few lines ago you were a peasant hopeing to not die broke.
Now you kid is a prince.
He has to be a king one day.......
and heres the "why"

Why does your child have to be Monarch just because you are?
What if hes stupid, or mean, or meak.
Why does your child have to be a peasant just because you are?
I doubt anyone here would argue with trying to help their kids do more than they were able to do.
And I am SURE no one here would argue with the fact that one rich/powerful idiot "leader" makes a HUGE mess for large groups of normal people.
But our instinctive reaction is:
Movement UP the social ladder is always positive and movement down it is always negative?
As a peasant your child can succeed or fail on his own with only the modest help you have given him.
If he's stupid he'll be poor quickly.
But if you're king, your child must be a monarch or
or
or
or what?
you look bad?
you failed?
you undid all the success of your ambition?
all the things you believed in, that got you where you are, are suddenly wrong?

Now, before you accuse me of falling into a nice socialist train of thought here:
This where the definitions of your philosphy/religion come in.
Obviously success is not necessarily measured in $ or retirement packages.
But it is why we work each day.
Under the concept that we can earn enough today to take care fo tomorrow.
(NO different thatn makeing hay while the sun shines)
Many of us would argue that success is a measure of the mastery and iscovery of new things in our universe.
Going from a 8# baby with only the drive to eat and sleep to a grown adult with all the knowledge of a mechanic, teacher, computer tech, doctor, scientist, etc is an amazing feat.
However, while you grow and develope you need somewhere safe to live...and that means $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
So, a doctor makes more than a computer tech.
Wouldn't it be nice to be one?
Would you want every docotrs kid to be a doctor too?
What if he's an idiot?
Thats why they go to school.
But there is no final exam for keeping daddys fortune.
If you're a true moron, you'll blow it all and be poor again.
The rest of them tho......they want to protect this money they got for nothing.
they want to maintain this way of life that they cannot truely appreciated because they didn't have to earn it.
They need certain conditions to do that.
if they are King they hire advisors to make important descisions so they don't screw it up. generals to command the armys that protect their wealth.
And they MUST KEEP THE PEASANTS PEASANTS!!!!!
You knew I was gonna go there right?
I've talked long enough.
If you became King would you remember what it was like to NOT be King.
Would your child?
Would your grandchild?
So, who made your grandchild King?
God?
Can't argue with that.
