View Full Version : getting back to normal...

I turned on the weather channel this morning.
Then I flipped to Fox news.

They goofy co-host asks the incredibly-clean-cut-pushing-50-black-male-news-corespondant from Washington if things are really "getting back to normal"

The corespondant looks very uncomfortable and says that from a strictly NON-Journalistic POV things are VERY DIFFERENT now.

*ahem*

With absolutely NO disrespect to the many innocent people who died.

I, personally, feel no great change.

I don't feel any different about my federal or state government.
I don't feel any different about the people in my area.
I don't feel any different about my country.
I don't feel any different about my family & friends.
I don't feel any different about the various religions and cultures I have read about or seen.
I don't feel any different about terrorism.
I don't feel any different about my economy.
I don't feel any different about airplanes.
I don't feel any different about cities.
I don't feel any different about foreign policy.
I don't feel any different about my potential to change and add to the condition of my country.

Could it be I have nothing ventured in all of this?
Or that I don't realise it?

I tend to think it has more to do with my outlook on things and the reasons I live like I do.

Excluding the obvious loss of life and shock of such a large scale change in such a short period of time...

...what has changed in you?

Oil prices are going to go up.

I have a strong desire to watch Ran by Akira Kurosawa again.

Something about hubris.

Then pay attention to what they're actually doing as a result. There's a rally to pass new legistlation. Some good, probably some bad.

I don't feel any different about the people in my area.

Have you noticed an increase in awareness of the rest of the world, in your area? Have you noticed people from rescue squads arent around, and have gone to NYC to volunteer to help? Have you noticed people giving anything they can to support the red cross?

Have you visited a hospital and seen the lines to give blood? Have you noticed that people seem in general... more decent?

Have you noticed people around you that had been enlisted but at home have been called up?

I don't feel any different about my country.

Then wake up. We're more united. Take a look at congress, there arent republicans or democrats or independants anymore. They're just americans working together. Have you completely missed the amount of patriotism thats been going on... and racism...?

I don't feel any different about my family & friends.

As well you shouldnt. They're still your family, they're still your friends. But have you noticed they may feel each moment they spend with you and one another is that much more important? I have. My friends have helped me get through this. We're all supporting one another as much as we can.

I don't feel any different about the various religions and cultures I have read about or seen.

As well you shouldnt. This isnt a culture thing, nor is it a religious thing. It's a fanaticism thing.

I don't feel any different about terrorism.

As well you shouldnt. This doesnt make terrorism any more bad than it always was. But it forces us to stop ignoring it, and stop being reactive... and become proactive in our dealings with terrorist groups.

I find it sad that there were terrorist groups that were so well known as to have official names. If they were known enough to have names, they should have been taken out long ago.

I don't feel any different about my economy.

Why should you? It's just as strong and/or weak as it was. We have the military equipment we need already in reserve, we wont see an influx to the economy as we build a military powerhouse... we already have it. Nor will the strikes have a long standing effect on the economy. The DJIA and NASDAQ are already crawling back up.

I don't feel any different about airplanes.

Theres no reason to. They're still flying, and the gov't is seeing to it that they are secured. If that wasnt the case then, and only then would I be worried.

I don't feel any different about cities.

Why should you?

I don't feel any different about foreign policy.

We need to take a good look at it. Perhaps you already HELD that view. In which case you have no reason to feel differently.

I don't feel any different about my potential to change and add to the condition of my country.

You shouldnt. But you should feel different about your potential to BE a part of your country.

Could it be I have nothing ventured in all of this?

No.

Or that I don't realise it?

A resounding yes.

What have I found as a result of this?

I have friends, such good friends.

Gas is expected to go down from where it is now.

It's already $0.15 chaper than it was on the 11th.

Most of the OPEC nations have pledged assistance to the US... along with the rest for the world.

Perhaps they're giving us a break?

This drop has been fuelled mainly by the expectation that a slowing world economy will reduce the demand for oil.

If there's any twitch of a war or further terrorist activity, they will skyrocket back up.
