partial transcript of comments from the Thurs, Sept 15th edition of "The 700 Club":

Jerry Falwell: The ACLU's got to take a lot of blame for this.

Pat Robertson: Well, yes.

Jerry Falwell: And I know that I'll hear from them for this, but throwing God out successfully with the help of the Federal Court System, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gay & lesbians who are actively trying to make an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For The American Way of Life - all of them who have tried to secularize America - I point the finger in their faces and say "you helped this happen".[/quote]

OMFG! ignorant people spouting their own personal moral agenda in the name of God just really piss me off! they claim to be Christians & yet preach intolerance, hypocrisy & even hatred - which is as far from the teachings of Christ the revolutionary as one could venture. i sincerely hope that this level of idiocy would not further affect the easily persuaded masses of this country.

Lol..I doubt it will...people know enough not to take stock in tv preachers. Especially ones spouting off bullshit like that.

I would LOVE to talk with one of these guys for 1 hour, in a small room, me and him. I would go fucking of on him for things like this. We would have a grand ol time debating, and I would have even more fun when he realizes that he is the jackass that I have been saying he is, and that he was completely wrong. Of course, for him to do that, he would have to have an open mind, so I guess you can scratch that out.

Maybe I could just beat the shit out of him instead...yeah...I think so

Way back when I attended a most excellent land grant institution named NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY (wolfpack, w00t!), we were frequently visited by "brickyard preachers." These guys would hang out in a particularly high traffic area of campus (the brickyard), and just preach the word of God as they knew it. Loudly. Antagonistically. (is that a word?) These guys were cut from the same cloth as Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. Some students would just keep walking and go about their business. Some would congregate around and listen to what they had to say. Some would even debate with the preachers.

One day, during one of a brickyard preacher's "sermons", I had some time to kill before my next class, so I hung around and observed. One student stepped forward and began to debate with the preacher in a civil, intelligent, respectable fashion. The preacher got incensed and told the student that he was ignorant of the scriptures, the history of mankind, and was a follower of Satan. Well, it turns out that the student was actually a graduate student studying theology. He knew the Bible cover to cover ten times better than the brickyard preacher. He was also well versed in the beliefs and customs of other religons. He refuted the fire and brimstone that spewed forth from the brickyard preacher quite intelligently and admirably. The brickyard preacher condemned him for a fool and pawn of Satan.

The moral of the story? Certain religous types are narrowminded to the point of intolerant ignorance. They reject the quest for the truth in favor of their own limited, fictional version. You can't reason with these types. You can only pity them and reject their teachings. They do not deserve our hate. Only pity.
