...till I can bust out my dress uniform and slap that fucking American flag armband across my left bicep, displaying it proudly as I goose step up and down my street...??

Well, you can probably start doing that now... might have to wait a few days before you start herding minorities into forced labor camps.

Do you have any military experience? Maybe you should enlist first. You could infiltrate Bootcamp and get first-hand knowledge of the evil tactics employed there. Afterward, your uniform will be respected.
If you're just going to get your garb from a surplus store and pretend to take charge, now is probably a good time to review your insurance policies.
Report back when you have more information, soldier. I salute your ambition and will work with my people to see that your armband is ready when you return. I'll save the receipt just in case you decide not to participate. K-Mart has a pretty good return policy.

You may yet get your chance...
Lets see if these "temporary" allocations of funds for "increased" security run there course or turn into the institution that our temporary bill-clinton gas taxes are.
Oh and that American flag arm band has to go comrade.
Its look more like a globe with olive branches under it on a light blue background.

A better question would be
"How long till you feel safe"
*even now the black helicopters pass over the houses each day and the locals no longer look up*
