View Full Version : what are you doing today?
are you still thinking "what's next?"
i haven't taled about it once with my friends, but we're Canadian...
how many Americans here are still keeping in touch with what's going on?
i'm just wondering cause my friends don't talk about it, no one's said nothing aboout it in the past day... so my thoughts, maybe this was the intended purpose, to go back to our every day routines, before this happened... seemed like the guard was down then...

I don't watch tv much right now, you get sick of hearing about it 24 hrs a day. It's not that I don't care, or that I want to deny that it happened or it is happening, I just have to try to get on a "happy note" from time to time. It seems to keep me sane.

Ive been working more than usual for my company, Lehman Brothers. Its a financial isntitution and needs to be operational at our alternate facilities in Jersey City New Jersey by monday when the markets reopen. We're in disaster recovery mode, so people are taking 12 hour shifts. Im taking classes, so cant take those shifts, but when im not sleeping or at classes (or meeting up with the family as im doing today) im at work.
Im scheduled for 20 hours a week, but it looks like ill be working closer to 70 next week.
Theres nothing left to talk about. We look out the window and see where they used to be. We have insurance photos of our building which was connected to the North Tower by an elevated footbridge. You do not want to see these photos.
We keep the TV on via IPTV in our small 4 person office which is inhabited by 12 people.
We dont talk much about it unless something new is announced on TV... asides from the standard "how're you holding up? Everything ok? Need to talk?" conversation we hear every 20 minutes.

"who are these? Why sit they in twilight?
Wherefore rock they, purgatorial shadows,
Drooping tongues from jaws that slob their relish,
Baring teeth that leer like skulls' teeth wicked?
Stroke on stroke of pain, -but what slow panic
Gouged these chasms round their fretted sockets?
Ever from their hair and through their hands' palms
Misery swelters. Surely we have perished
Sleeping, and walk in hell; but who these hellish?"

It skinda hard not to know whats going on and not to talk about it. When me and my dad went out to dinner the other night thats the only thing we talked about. There were 2 other coupls in the restuarant and they were talking about the same thing.
Last night, i was driving around w/ my friend and we mustve saw AT LEAST 100 people standing outside their houses/places of employment holding candles, waving american flags etc. Its kinda nice to see people doing things like this, its just sad it took a tragedy to make it happen.
But yes, im still keeping in touch with it.

I'm at work right now, dealing with stupid people and thier problems.
It needs doing, regardless of all the other things going on right now. The woman sitting right across from me has had some family related problems, nothing to do with this tragedy, and yet, shes at her desk too.
Man, I make too much out of the little things.

i was just wondering... sure, we have to get back to our everyday life, but i'm just wondering if you people are doing things to blank the problem out of your mind... or just doing things, but still having that thought in the back of your head...
but i'm canadian, so maybe i'm different http://www.thehypertribe.net/ubb/tongue.gif

I'd say that I'm still doing things to occupy my mind, but blanking out? Nah...
had a zen moment yesterday while sitting at job2, waiting for my food. Instead of looknig at the TV again, I watched as the tropical strom blew the trees around, thinking how I need ot be like the trees more. Bending with the wind, and not breaking. Besides, it was nice to se greenery, and not grey rubble for a while.
THo I have to admit, since Tuesday I've been a lot doing a lot more relfection on all the things I've heard in the last few years.

i'm starting to get the impression that my life isn't going to change at all after this... i'll still goto school, i'll still wonder what career i'm interested in, i'll still eat mcdonalds, i'll still do the same things...
the only thing that seems will change is politics and laws, making life more boring then it already is...

And those are all things I think we should all do,carry on with the normal aspects of our lives, yet try to keep some of this ;yellow alert' feeling with us. I think it was Massad Ayoob (some of you should know how that guy is) who first got me thinking about this way of being as a personal take on your surroundings. Dont be afraid all the time, but dont be lax. Be alert, not panicked. THat sort of thing.
I very badly want to be in NY right now, but I stay here in FL. To leave my life behind for this would be another victory for terrorists. And yes, I am that damn important, so are you.
BTW, more things WILL indeed go boom. I hate to say it, but this act of cowardice will not utopia make.

Several "what ifs" are floating around right now. Some of many that I've had the unfortunate luck of hearing sort of being party to.
"What if all of the Arab nations such as Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan etc etc etc join forces against us when we get over there..."
"What if this turns out to be another Vietnam..."
"What if NATO and other nations abandon us and we're left doing it on our own..."
"What if this was a huge plot...the countries in question teaming up with China just to give China a way and a means to declare war on us..."
"What if we ALL go over there...land...start fighting a war and then suddenly... China neutron bombs the hell out of us and starts hammering us from the West...landing forces...and walking across from West to East...what then? where are our forces...can we fight in the Middle East, at home, AND in China?..."
Several things are in the air as far as what ifs. I know I haven't listed them all. Paranoia and Pandemonium at its finest.

you should have come to TX for the pagan weekend gathering. just got back. beautiful, green grass, unfettered stars, raging fires, dreamy creek, good people, good music, a celebration of life in the midst of the darkness. this was our way of dealing, our way of healing. we unplugged from the media frenzy, lit candles for those lost & carried on. i feel renewed.
